Hi Levana,

We’ve designed the process of Adding a Direct to Local Bank payment method to be as straightforward as possible. To add your bank account:

  1. Go to Settings  Get Paid
  2. Click Add Method
  3. Click the Set Up button for your chosen method
  4. Enter your bank account details, including bank codes
  5. Choose a payment schedule and click Next

Important things to know:

  • For security reasons, your new payment method will become active in three days.
  • Check that the name on your bank account matches your verified name on Upwork. If your payment method was flagged for a name mismatch, please contact support to resolve the issue or add a new payment method.
  • You should also contact your bank if you're not sure you have the correct information, or if you received an error when you tried to enter it into our system.
  • Upwork charges $0.99 per Direct to Local Bank withdrawal. Any additional restrictions, timing regulations, and fees vary depending on your bank.
  • Be sure that you enter your bank information, including bank codes, correctly. We want you to get your money on schedule and any errors could result in a failed transfer or delay. If you've exceeded the character limit on the Name on Account field, please contact your bank to get an appropriate abbreviation.
    • Since some banks aren’t in our database or have recently changed their information, your bank details may not be recognized. In that case, you can enter your bank information manually by selecting the "enter branch address manually" option. On the pop-up that appears click "enter it manually." Once clicked, a new form will appear to let you enter your bank details. You may want to re-confirm the bank code and other information on file with your bank before entering changes manually in order to avoid potential problems with withdrawals.

Hi Egwuatu,

You cannot add a payment method that does not belong to you. If your bank is unable to assist you with the swift code, you can explore other available option to withdraw your earnings. Click the 'Add a method' button on the Get paid page to check other available payment methods. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to reply to this message.

I'm having the same issues, payment method keep disabled three times, it really frustrating

Hi Gideon,

I'm sorry to learn about your payment method that kept on being disabled. I checked and see that it was disabled due to incorrect or invalid bank details. To get this sorted out, could you please reach out to your bank to confirm your bank details and ensure there haven't been any changes on their end? If there have been changes, you might want to remove your bank account and then re-add it with the updated information by going to Account settings > Get Paid. You can learn more here

I don't think so because the name on your local bank need to match with the name on your Upwork account, why not try opening another bank account

Hi, I am from New Zealand and am having issues with withdrawing money/earnings from my Upwork account. The 2 issues are:

1. SWIFT code from ANZ is: ANZBAU3MXXX - however this is not found on Upwork, even when XXX is removed.

2. Bank account number is too long. My ANZ bank number is: AA-XXXX-YYYYYYY-PP. It's not 12-digit account, as requested by Upwork. How do I go about this??

Help would be appreciated,

Thank you

Hello Sophie,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I’ll be glad to help. Since some banks aren’t in our database or have recently changed their information, your bank details may not be recognized. In that case, you can enter your bank information manually by selecting the "enter branch address manually" option. Here is a screenshot for reference.

Thank you, the SWIFT code now works, but my 2nd issue hasn't been resolved:

Bank account number is too long. My ANZ bank number is: AA-XXXX-YYYYYYY-PP. It's not 12-digit account, as requested by Upwork.

Are you able to help with this?

Hi, I entered the correct sort code displayed on my bank card (I am in the UK) and Upwork does accept it because it says it can't find the bank. The code is correct and entered correctly with no spaces in between and I've confirmed it with the bank. I can't add a payment withdrawal method because of this. There is no way to file a ticket nor to find an actual support team other than the bot that reiterates the same unhelpful thing again and again. Please help.

I contacted our bank and gave me the BRSTN number but it says "it's not found".

I checked some forums/questions here that's related to my concern and upwork members said that after getting a not found result, it should direct me to a tab for manual input of address, but it didn't. Can someone help me please?

Ivygail's avatar

Hello Jialyn,

If you enter the BRSTN Code and hit search, and it's not found, you should be able to see the option to enter it manually.

You may want to re-confirm the code and other information on file with your bank before entering changes manually to avoid potential withdrawal problems. Please check out this helpful article for more information about the correct format of the BRSTN Code.

Dear Upwork Support Team,

I am trying to set up withdrawals using the "Direct to local bank" option, but I am encountering an error when entering my IFSC code. The system shows the error message:

"Bank not found. Please check the IFSC code."

The IFSC code I entered is SBIN0064405, which is correct and belongs to my bank branch. Could you please assist me in resolving this issue?

I would appreciate your help in ensuring that my bank details are properly added for withdrawals.

Thank you for your assistance!

Best regards,
Rashmin Shingala
