Unable to add/use payment method

Hi, Upwork can't accept my credit card for some reason, it keeps on declining it.

Hi Hassan

 

In general, this happens when the transactions you’re attempting on your card keep being declined by the bank. Please contact your card-issuing bank for more information about the specific charge decline.

If you’re still experiencing issues after checking with your bank, you can contact support by:

 

  1. Please visit Contact Support and click the ‘Chat with Upwork' button.
  2. Type a question or topic and select ‘Send’. The bot will find relevant Help articles for you.
  3. The chatbot will ask you to confirm if you need additional help. If you confirm that you need additional help, you will be asked to confirm the account type you need help with.
  4. From there, the support options available to you will be listed. Select either of the options to be able to contact the Upwork Support Team.

I'm sorry to learn that you're having difficulties processing payments. I've checked, and It looks like the charge on your credit card keeps getting declined. Please get in touch with your card-issuing bank for more information about the specific charge decline.

Hello, we wanted to book 3 designer but sadly I can't use PayPal as a payment method. The warning says the following: "Sorry, we couldn't charge the billing method you selected. Please try a different one. If you still need help, contact customer support"

We can't use another method so we need Paypal. Thank you

Hi Marlon,

 

I'm sorry if you're having difficulties with your billing method. You may need to add an alternative payment method to your PayPal wallet to add your PayPal account as a payment method on Upwork, as the transaction cannot be completed from our end. Please let us know if the issue continues once you've added an alternative payment method.

 

To check which payment source failed on your PayPal account, follow these steps:
 
  • Log into your PayPal account and go to "Settings."
  • Go to the "Payments" tab and click "Manage automatic payments."
  • Click on the billing agreement associated with "Upwork Escrow Inc."
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and check what funding source is your backup.
  • Update the backup source to a valid payment method and re-attempt the payment.

 

If the transaction fails again, the next step is to contact PayPal directly. Specifically, you'll want to talk to a PayPal Tier 2 agent and ask why your transaction to Upwork was declined. You may let our team know how it goes with PayPal if you need further assistance. You may update the support ticket you've raised here with the information you gathered from PayPal.

Hello, can you help me with the payment issue that we have regarding our credit card "Visa" when i want to pay the balance to the current freelancer for hourly contract it says:
There was a problem charging your billing method. Please enter a new billing method and try again.
The problem that this credit card is already been used in upwork in our account for making a payment last week, also we contacted the bank for this issue and they confirmed that it is not the bank issue.

it seems like i'm flagged by upwork or the payment processor.

 

ive tried 2 different banks credit cards, ive tried paypal itself (went through then bounced back after), ive tried zip pay prepaid credit cards.

My goodness, get your tech support sorted out. Why do they advise me to go to the bank when I have already tried 3 banks and used PAYPAL BALANCE? I debit money from paypal balance and this site still refunds the money. I lost all my nerves.

They won't help you. I've tried everything. Paypal, 3 banks, the money comes back. I persuaded a freelancer to use another site and I was able to pay in 1 minute. upd. After 4 days, they decided to redirect my issue to the payments department. AHAH LOL

Upwork refusing my payment when i am trying to hire a freelancer for my project, already called paypal/bank. Answers are same: "Contact Upwork support, they can help u with this issue". AI on website lagging so i hope this community can help me to resolve issue.

WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE BILLING SYSTEM AT UPWORK???

Ive been trying to update my Credit card in my account for days.     I've been waiting 4 days for a credit card verification email to  e sent to my email to activate my account.  NO EMAIL HAS ARRIVED!  NOW I CANNOT PAY MY WORKER THAT FINISHED THE JOB.  I will have to find another way to pay her.  THIS REALLY SUCKS!!

I Initiated contract with a freelancer for fixed price contract I paid 30$+ 6$ tax they deducted the amount but contract was nit initiated and it showed payment failed.

I took a closer look at the transaction you're referring to and confirmed that it's been declined by your bank. You may contact your card-issuing bank for more information about the charge decline. 

 

Since you mentioned that the amount has been deducted, could you please click on my name and send me a PM with a screengrab of the successful charge from your account? We'll surely have that reviewed and assist you accordingly. Looking forward to your response.

Yes, i am facing the same issue like many others. PayPal was charged and a second later refunded. Credit Card is working on other website but upwork do not accept it because of... no idea. I am new here, found a good guy but i am not able to pay him because i cannot pay.

 

Yes, i opened also a ticket now ...
