"Announcements from Upwork" needs a way to be disabled!

I'm a very busy person running multiple computers and on this one alone 3 browsers completely full of tabs.

I get on Upwork for extra money to support my main businesses. I've been off and on for some odd years now, back in the elance days.

Things have gone downhill. Let's not talk about the connects ...

Instead the point - when I see a red symbol on my messages tab, I expect it to be a client.

I don't want to keep running over (as we know being first to reply can be the difference between being hired or not, more so than any other factor) to this computer or the phone just to see yet another "Accouncement" that I could care less about.

 

I hide the "conversation" and it just comes back.

There's no way to block it.

I see no way to opt out.

 

Am I missing something? Is there any way to disable that junk? Why not just stick to emails? Because you know we won't read them? Well if so, why force them in our face when we're expecting it to be a client?

 

Let's see ... $15/month for a membership fee. $13 more for 80 connects. What is it, 25%, 15% of our earnings go to Upwork? A job takes no less than two connects. Some 6. Now the "boosting". Now it costs connects just to be shown as "Available"???

 

We have to pay to be shown as available? BUT, we are still stuck with your spam in our inbox?

Choose one or the other. I didn't care about you slowly draining my account but I hid the Announcements and not 5 minutes later I have a notification - right after bidding on a job - that is just another announcement.

 

Come on already.

 

This place was much greater when it was just elance. After merging with Guru I would have expected it's quality to increase. Instead it's going the route of Freelancer.

I understand that you would like to stop receiving these invites moving forward. To do that, your email addresses will need to be removed from the marketing database. This means you will also not receive other marketing emailers from Upwork. Please confirm if you would like to be removed from the database so our team can file a request for you.

Is there any way to opt out of the constant flow of messages from Upwork announcing events and inviting us to various programs and seminars and (blah, blah, blah, blah)? I haven't been able to find a way, but the "new messages" symbol always being present because Upwork messages constantly makes it harder to keep track of legitimate communications from clients and prospects.

Hi,

 

With the recent overhaul of forums/community function, I got curious and started to spend more time with the new UX design. I signed up for "Talent Toolbox" in community out of curiosity but did not have a chance to follow all the posts. Today I received a message in my Upwork messagebox (not in my community account)  from "Customer Education" urging me to leave a feedback for coaching services. 

 

Now, since Upwork requires me to sign in for Community Pages and it provides me a separate inbox for this service, I thought that I'd receive community related messages in this separate inbox. 

 

Again, I thought that my freelancer account/inbox was for business purposes only. 

 

I think that something is wrong here. There wasn't any unsubsribe option for the message I received and there wasn't any related message in my community inbox.

 

I think there's an issue with the implementation of Upwork services and I don't want to believe that Upwork would spam it's valuable members' inboxes. Am I wrong?

Thank you for reaching out to us. Your Community inbox is where you can communicate with Community members. For client and Upwork communications, your main account inbox will be used. Please let us know if you wish to discontinue receiving messages from Upwork Academy so we can assist you further.

How do I stop receiving emails from Upwork Events and Websinars?

Thank you for your message. Historically, we've received feedback from users wanting to receive notifications for more events, but I certainly understand your concern. In general, you can navigate through your notification settings If you're looking to make changes to your email notifications for messages. I've shared your feedback about adding more options to notification settings for specific types of messages with the team.

Were you trying to unsubscribe directly from within the email? Could you please access your Community settings here and select to disable Community emails? If the issue persists, please let me know the error you're getting once you try it.

It happens in basement of letter. I suppose this bug should be escalated to the development department for a fix

Hello, I never asked for these updates, nor do I want them. 

I can't seem to block or delete the chat for "Upwork Events & Webinars", but I would like to.


This is basically SPAM that I never asked for, and not interested in.

 


Is it possible to nuke this out of existence from my app and chat?

Yes, please remove me from ALL marketing emails. I never asked for any of this spam. 

The UpWork app "spams" my mobile phone with unsolicited advertisements of functionality. I do not want any notifications unless I specifically turn them on, I did not turn these on, nor can I find a way to turn them off, please advise...

 

You can see attached I have everything turned off, but I still get "promotional" advertisements from UpWork... 

This has happened again, and I have not received any support from my initial complaint a few months ago about this. I received an email titled:

"Tired of searching for the right job match? Look no more! We found a few you might be interested in. Check out these open jobs to find your next project today:"

 

Please be sure to honor my settings, and do not send emails / notifications unsolicited. Please confirm and open a ticket on this for me.

I'm sorry we didn't respond to your concern earlier. I understand you would like to stop receiving these announcements and event invites. To do that, your email addresses will need to be removed from the marketing database. This means you will also not receive other marketing emailers from Upwork. I'll see that there are messages on Upwork, so I check to see if a client is trying to reach me, but it's another class, seminar, or invitation, talent huddle, etc,  nothing that I have time for or am interested in at the moment. I get them weekly and I can't turn them off. I would rather they come in the form of notifications instead of messages. Please save the message part for clients trying to reach freelancers.

This is ridiculous, how can you treat emails and Upwork app messages the same? It should be separate thing. At least bring the option to report these as spam (rightly so) back, it gave me some satisfaction. ๐Ÿ™‚ Apparently I wasn't the only one reporting these messages, since the issue was big enough for you to remove the option! That means a lot of people are annoyed by these messages.

Edit: It's actually quite funny how your solution to people reporting these as spam was not to add ability to leave the room, but to remove the option to report these messages. ๐Ÿ˜„

Please remove me from anything "Announcements from Upwork" as well. This should have been opt in only, not automatically subscribed for all users.

We certainly understand your concern. If you like, you can choose not to receive desktop, mobile and email notifications by updating your notification settings. 

 

To change your notification settings:

  1. Go to Settings โ€บ Notification Settings.

  2. Select a drop-down option for desktop, mobile, and email notifications.

  3. For other Upwork email updates check or uncheck the relevant notification as needed.

I still get these unwanted notifications, what is the exact setting I need to turn off, please include a screenshot. Please see my settings here, which show them unchecked, yet I still receive unsolicited announcements.
