Connects

Hi everyone,

I'm curious if anyone could let me know why some tasks required only 1 connect, but many tasks required 6 connects.

Thank you,

Apinia

Hi all,

As a freelancer or agency, you'll use Connects to Submit Proposals and let clients know you're interested in their project. You receive ten free Connects every month at the beginning of your billing cycle and bonuses for some interviews you win. We will send you a notification in Upwork (notification bell) and an email when you earn free Connects. For more information on how this works, check out our guide here.

To purchase Connects, go to Settings > Membership & Connects and click on the green 'Add More Connects' button. From there, select the amount to buy and click on the 'Buy Connects' button. Please note, that if you have sufficient funds on your Upwork balance, the charge will be applied to your Upwork balance. You can check out this help article to learn about the available Billing Methods.

Hello Everyone,

This month for the first time I purchased Freelancer Plus and instantly got 70 or 80 connects now I would like to know if I don't renew my Plus membership next month Shall my Freelancer Plus connects get expired if I don't use them within a month?

Hi Arslan,

Each month, your unused Connects will roll over. Connects will be used in the order you get them and unused ones will expire after one year.

I have attached 2 photos below where it seems to show that I am being charge twice for boosted proposals.

The one on the left was for a job where my total proposal was 16 connects for applying and 15 connects for boosting.

The one on the right was for a job where my total proposal was 16 connects for applying and 23 connects for boosting.

In both photos, it seems like I was charged twice for the boost. The initial boosted charge on both photos says "Connects bid for boosted proposal", but then the second charge says "We accepted your bid to boost the proposal. This is the final bid charge."

So, I have no idea what is going on. Why are there 2 charges for a boost? And it is not because I withdrew the proposals, because I never did in either case. Besides, if I had withdrew the proposals, then I would have also been charged twice for applying again which you can see I was never charged for. So, can someone explain what is going on here?

Hi Ralph,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I checked on this and it looks like your proposal has been viewed by the client hence the Connects you used to bid was charged from your Connects balance again. If you check your My Stats page and then choose the Proposals in the drop-down list, you'll see that all your boosted proposals in the last seven days have been viewed.

I had activated  Agency Plus Subscription but connects count is 0 for agency. Do I have to purchase the connects or upwork will provide some free connects?

Hi Monica,

I understand you have some questions about Connects for your Agency Plus Plan. Unlike the Freelancer Plus Plan which has free 80 Connects per month, the Agency Plus Plan does not have this perk.

Agency Plus is a monthly subscription for $20.00 (USD) per month that gives agencies access to build their team and purchase shared agency Connects for $0.15 (USD) per Connect.

When you upgrade to an Agency Plus plan, you'll experience the following benefits:

  • Build your agency with unlimited team members
  • Customize your Agency Profile URL to highlight your business
  • Be competitive with insight into competitor bids on jobs
  • Engage and apply by purchasing shared agency Connects
  • Keep your earnings confidential

Hello everyone,
I am a full stack developer. Previously I worked for a company. But Now I take decision for doing freelancing. After some research I create a upwork profile successfully with my skills. Now time to bid, but I am full puzzled when I am seeing that, almost all proposal take 16 connects as a charge. And I see minimum 12 connects jobs.

Okay, when I reasearch for creating account. I see some graphic designer profile and they are sending proposal by using only 3 or 4 connects. And by using total 50 connects they can sent around 11-13 proposal.

And we are, I mean web developer, can sent total 3-4 proposal by using total 50 connects. There is big difference. Question is if I can sent 3-4 proposal, how can I get success in upwork. This is 5% only chances to get client by sending only 3-4 proposal.

Last thing is, after spending 50 connects, Upwork give us 10 connects every month. Just imagine that, I have to wait 2 month for sending further proposal! So, how can I get success from upwork. It is very true that, I have real experience, I have no client.

Last word is I am getting frustrated!

Hi Siam,

The number of Connects needed to apply can vary from job to job. We calculate the number of Connects needed based on the projected job value, determined using estimated duration and budget amount, as well as marketplace demand.

While you receive 10 monthly Connects every month from your Freelancer Basic subscription, you do not have to wait until it renews for you to continue applying. You can buy Connects anytime; they cost $0.15 and are sold in bundles or a custom amount of your choice. You can check this article to learn more.

I withdraw 2 contract and and don't get connect in my account please resolve my problem as soon as possible and back my connect.

Thank you

Hi Roshankumar,

Connects are not refunded for withdrawn contracts or proposals. You can get back the Connects you spent on a proposal if the client cancels the project before signing a contract or if we remove the project for violating our Terms of Service. This does not apply to projects that expire naturally. You can refer to this help page for more information.

I used connects in applying and boosting the proposal. The client responded me back and hired me. But my connects used in applying and in booasting are not returned back.
However i got 2 notifications given below, PLease explain this to me:
We accepted your bid to boost a proposal. This is a refund for your total bid.
We accepted your bid to boost a proposal. This is the final bid charge.

Hi Salman,

This is by design. If you're either among the top bidders at the end of the auction, or the client interacts with your proposal while it's boosted, you'll pay what you bid. If you are owed a refund of Connects, you will be refunded for the entire amount you bid, and then charged the correct amount, which is what you see in your Connects History. Feel free to read this article to learn more.

Hi Chafura,

We return your Connects when a client closes his job without hiring or we remove the job for TOS violation. This is not applicable for expired jobs or in case you withdraw the proposals. You can refer to this help page for more information.

Hello
The length of this thread shows how sensitive this topic is. as others have noticed, a free Baisik account often does not allow even one of the offers. Most of them are at level 12 and 16 connections. The translation that additional purchases are a business expense is not entirely accurate. After all, the Portal collects commissions from both the Client and the Freelacer! And the connection fees with this number of offers don't seem entirely fair to freelancers. Those who win pay a commission, and those who lose pay for nothing! The amount of 1.5-2 dollars for the opportunity to apply is a lot of money considering the number of offers. However, the fact that offers are not closed with unsuccessful winners may suggest that the portal has a hand in these frauds. Unfortunately! Moreover, I just lost a lot of time to find out about the possibility of asking a question to the client before submitting the application. Because many times there is such a need. But that can't be done. For example, a client wants a file for CNC production. I want an STL file but for the model to be smooth. One excludes the other. I don't want to make an offer before explaining to the client that this is not what they need. I have to lose my connection first to be able to blindly bid. And even then there is no opportunity to ask a clarifying question. The plus account also allows you to submit only 5-8 proposals, which unfortunately does not guarantee success.

If you have withdrawn your proposal or the job has expired, your Connects should be automatically returned to your account within 48 hours. However, there may be a few reasons why you are not seeing your Connects back in your account.

  1. The job may not have been closed properly. If the client did not close the job properly, Upwork may not be able to return your Connects. In this case, you will need to contact Upwork Customer Support to manually request a refund.

  2. Your Connects may have been used for another proposal. If you submitted another proposal after withdrawing your first proposal, your Connects may have been used for the new proposal. In this case, you will not be able to get your Connects back.

It is not refunding.

Hello,

suddenly I discover that I have only 7 seven connects. But previous day I had 16 connects and with a proposal of 17 connect being withdrawn it should have been 33 connects but now I have only 7 connects which is very discouraging as a beginner in the platform. May anybody tell me what could have been going on ??

Hi Palash.

Connects are not returned after you withdraw proposals. You can refer to this help page to learn more about Connects

Hi guys,

I have submited my proposal but while I was at it someone already have been hired. The add is still even though its stated that one person is needed. Why is the add not closed? Will I recive my connects back?

How long do I have to wait for my connects refund?

Thanks for help,

Kaja

Hi Kaja,

Clients can keep their job posts open even after they've hired someone, as they may be interested in hiring more than one person for a specific project. Additionally, Connects are only refunded under two circumstances:

  • If the client cancels a project before a contract is made. This does not apply to expired job posts.
  • If we remove a project's post because we believe it violates our Terms of Service.

You can visit this page if you wish to learn more. I'd also recommend that you take a look at our Upwork Academy page, where you'll be able to find courses to learn all the basics regarding Upwork.

This is an obvious lie. Upwork is interested in ensuring that connects do not return to freelancers' accounts.

recent i bid a booster job, but this job get other. in this case i back my extra connect. i report you. you say after 24 hours back this connect. still now, not get this extra connect?

Hi Galib,

I want to clarify that when you boost a proposal, you'll pay what you bid if you are among the top four bidders at the end of the auction, or if the client interacts with your proposal while it is boosted. We consider eligible interactions whenever the client opens your proposal, shortlists your proposal, messages you, archives your proposal, declines your proposal, or sends you an offer.

In your case, I can see that the client viewed your proposal so you won't be receiving those Connects back. You can check this help article to learn more.

Hi, I've withdrawn a proposal that lasted two month. How long does it take to receive connects.

Connects are not refunded when a proposal is withdrawn by the freelancer.

Thanks for your reply but I'd like to know is this restricted to free connects only or all kinds of connects.

I sent a job proposal to a client who didn't answer for more than 2 months and didn't close the job. How can I get my connects?

Hi Eman,

Connects are only returned if a job post is removed for a Terms of Service violation, or if the client closes the job before a contract is made (this does not apply to expired job posts). You can check this article for more information.

Hi, I registered for Upwork before Connects were introduced, but I have never used Upwork. Now I would like to start using it but found only 10 Connects in my account, which are not enough for most job posts. Can I claim the free 40 Connects granted upon registration please?

Hello Giacomo,

I hope you are doing well.

Thank you for being an upwork member. As you tried many months later, I suggest you buy the Connects as Upwork has updated their policy recently.

The better option is to buy the Upwork membership plan, it will unlock many options for you.

Hi Giacomo,

I've checked and confirmed that it's not a newly created account. Looks like this is an old account that's not been used for a while. Please remember that only new freelancers will receive a bonus of 40 Connects. Since your account is not new, you will not receive the Connects on your account.

Please check this help article to better understand how Connects works.

hi dear, what is promo code ?

i should pay for this site ? to have a work ?

Hi Ranin,

Thank you for your message. You do not need to pay to apply for each job on Upwork. Connects are what you are charged when you submit a proposal for jobs posted in our marketplace. The number of Connects you will need to use to apply for a job varies depending on the job post. You can refer to this help page to learn more about Connects.

You do not need to pay to apply for each job on Upwork.

It's a lie! You have to pay by "connects" every time! Much times free connects don't even allow you to apply for a single job, and when you want to buy more connects, UPWORK PHISING YOUR BANK CARD DETAILS!
