Connects

I submitted two proposals, but just as I clicked 'submit proposal,' I found myself outside of the top four bidding positions. However, I still haven't received my boosted connects back.

Hi all,

 

As a freelancer or agency, you'll use Connects to Submit Proposals and let clients know you're interested in their project. You receive ten free Connects every month at the beginning of your billing cycle and bonuses for some interviews you win. We will send you a notification in Upwork (notification bell) and an email when you earn free Connects. For more information on how this works, check out our guide here.

 

To purchase Connects, go to Settings > Membership & Connects and click on the green 'Add More Connects' button. From there, select the amount to buy and click on the 'Buy Connects' button. Please note, that if you have sufficient funds on your Upwork balance, the charge will be applied to your Upwork balance. You can check out this help article to learn about the available Billing Methods.

Upwork has suspended the client. If you applied, you will receive your connects in return, as long as you did not also violate the Terms of Service. The usual issue is payment. It's possible the client used an old card, etc. but the most likely occurrence is that it was a scammer using a stolen number. It doesn't matter how much money the client has spent, how many jobs, or their reputation. You must treat every client as a potential scammer.

I don't remember the last time that I bought connects, and the connects page in my account will only give me information from a maximum of 90 days. I'm pretty sure that a bunch of my connects will expire soon if I don't use them, but how do I figure out exactly when this will happen?

When your Connects are due for expiry, you should see a notification on the Connect History page. I checked your account, and it looks like there are no Connects expiring in the next 30 days.

Hello. My billing cycle is from 12th to 13th of subsequent months, I have the paid freelancer plus plan.

 

I haven't received my monthly connects for May so far. I even checked and updated the the payment settings.

Hello my dears, I have a problem whenever I want to search for a job, which is that I do not have enough links to apply for a job, knowing that days have passed and I have not received any links so that I can apply for a job. Work, and this hinders me from doing my job and making money.

I'm not quite sure if I understand correctly, but if you are referring to applying for jobs, you can search for and apply to jobs from your 'Find Work' tab. Please know that you do not need to wait for clients to invite you to apply to their job posts; you can apply to jobs in your job feed. You can find more information on how to search for jobs here

 

If you are concerned about Connects, you have the option to purchase then if you do not have enough left to submit proposals. To purchase Connects, go to Settings > Membership & Connects and click on the green 'Add More Connects' button. From there, select the amount to buy and click on the 'Buy Connects' button.

Yes, you receive 10 free Connects every month from your current membership. In addition, as detailed in the article Joanne shared above, you can earn Connects in the following ways:

 

  • You’ll receive 30 free Connects if you earn a Rising Talent badge
  • You’ll receive free Connects (the number can vary) when you win an interview with an established client on Upwork. (To prevent gaming, we aren’t sharing all the details of what we consider “established.” In general, it’s a client who has hired and spent on Upwork in the past.)
  • You’ll get a one-time Connects bonus if you complete an Upwork Skill Certification

I'm trying to find out when my Connects will expire. The last time I used Connects was in December last year, and I had a few stocked up before that. I understand that Connects expire after one year, but I'm not sure if they expire as a whole or in batches. Can anyone provide some clarity on this or guide me on where to check the expiration dates for my Connects?

No free Connects are offered for completing verification and adding payment methods. Could you please share the screenshot of the notification that was sent to you?

You're probably referring to the notification our ID verification team sent asking you to verify your identity. However, I want to reiterate Pradeep's response above that no Connects will be added upon completing the ID verification.

 

The initial batch of 50 free Connects has been applied upon setting up your profile. No additional Connects will be added afterward, even after adding a verified billing method or verifying your identity. I hope this clarifies.

I am writing to propose a solution for an issue that affects freelancers on the platform regarding the loss of connects when clients do not hire anyone for their posted jobs. It would greatly benefit the Upwork community if Upwork could consider implementing a rule to refund connects in such situations.

 

Currently, freelancers invest their valuable connects to submit proposals for jobs, but if a client doesn't hire anyone, those connects are lost without any compensation. This not only creates frustration but also devalues the connects that are an essential resource for freelancers.

 

I kindly request that Upwork reviews this matter and considers implementing a policy where unused connects are refunded to freelancers if the client does not hire for a particular job. This would ensure fairness, protect freelancers' interests, and maintain a positive freelancing experience on the platform.

I'm sorry to tell you that I have been here for 8 years and 2 years ago they started with the connection system, this site is a disaster for freelancers... They only give you 10 free connections per month, which is of no use to you and works like "hook" to buy more connections because 10 are totally insufficient to apply for a "decent" job... Also, another thing that I realized recently is that clients used to send me invitations offering me work... not for 2 years I have had invitations and do you know why??... simply because to activate my profile and make it visible to potential clients... guess what?? you must BUY CONNECTIONS!

Yes, in freelancing you have to pay for everything. If you have to buy connects, it's only $15.00. I realize that may be a huge amount for some people, but this is a U.S. based platform, using U.S. dollars. If you can't or won't invest a mere $15.00, you will not succeed in freelancing. No matter where you go, or how you work, you have to pay for every single cost. Freelancing in the physical world is no different. Freelancing means you must have marketable skills, money to run the business, time, patience, motivation, and again, marketable skills.

 

I searched for your profile, but it isn't anywhere I can find, and I didn't search through the forum. For some reason, sometimes, if you search for someone through the forum, it will indicate the profile is private, or even not there. So, you have never purchased connects in two years? If you do not activate your profile, how do you expect to get clients? Why would a client consider hiring you with no profile?

 

If you want to freelance, and you are prepared to be self-employed, please use the link to the Academy at the top of the page. You need to learn how to use the platform and learn about vetting the client and the job. The connects you receive at the beginning are intended to help you out, not give you jobs. Freelancers are responsible for everything, every decision, and every action you take.
