I started an hourly contract and I have worked for over 12 hours. Now I have been informed that the contract is suspended as Upwork is carrying out an investigation. So what will happen to the 12 hours worked? Will I be paid?

Hi there,
There are two reasons why your contract may be paused:
You can check out this help article to learn some tips on what you can do if your contract is paused.

Hi Syed Zeeshan,
I looked into the job you mentioned and found out that the contract is on hold because we are reviewing a problem with your client's account and you cannot continue to bill that client through Upwork until the issue is resolved. This could happen for various reasons, but we are not allowed to disclose any details about your clients' accounts for confidentiality.
However, please be aware that Upwork Hourly Protection may cover hours worked before the contract was paused. We recommend that you stop working on the contract and contact your client to know when the agreement could resume. You can check this help article to learn more.

Hi Arjay!
Thanks for your time.
I logged the hours and delivered the work in first week when contract was normal and payment method was verified.
The email regarding hold on contract was received in second week and from there I have stopped working with this client.
I've contacted my client but he is unresponsive so I'm not sure if he would reply to me as I have delivered project to him.
I'm not asking about the actual reason behind this tragedy but suggesting a simple way to avoid such scams in future.
It's more relevant to freelancers and Upwork.
Thanks

Hello Syed! You can check out these articles for information on how you can be safe in Upwork:
Report Suspicious User Activity
In addition, if you already have a contract with the client, it is best to check the criteria we have for payment protection and comply so your payment can still be covered.
You can find out more information about this here:
I hope this helps. Thanks for using Upwork!

Good morning, my contract has been suspended but I didn't receive any e-mail or message.
My client doesn't answer and I don't know how to proceed to get my payment.
Could you please let me know?
Thank you!
Sep 15, 2023 05:50:31 AM by Pradeep H
Hi Camilla,
I am sorry to hear about your contract. I see that you are referring to a Fixed Price contract with an active milestone. If you have already completed the assigned work on the active milestone, please submit your work using the 'Submit work for Payment' button. This will give 14 days for the client to review your work and approve or request revision. In case of no response, the funds will be automatically released to you after 14 days.

I can not accept some offers. It says "It seems we raninto an unexpected problem with this offer. Please ask the client to withdraw it and create a new one, or contact Upwork support." Is there anything I can do to solve this?
Thanks!

I am a freelancer and my client approved my proposal. But then the contract appeared to be suspended and all messages disappeared and I cannot send messages. Can someone help me?
Sep 21, 2023 01:30:30 PM by William T C
Mert,
My guess is that the client got removed from the site for breaking the Terms of Service.
Sep 21, 2023 01:32:49 PM by Mert E
However, they did not send me an e-mail or an explanation and I do not want to lose my first job.
Sep 21, 2023 01:35:37 PM by William T C
Mert,
They are not going to message you nor is it needed. If the job is no longer posted, then it's not available IE no job coming.
Sep 21, 2023 01:37:13 PM by Mert E
This situation made me sad. I needed that job and we were getting along with the other party. So how long will it take for this situation to be resolved?
Sep 21, 2023 01:52:33 PM by Will L
Mert,
I know it's hard to lose out on what appeared to be a good client and their project, but it's likely Upwork helped itself and you avoid working with a fraud.
Just chalk it up to experience and move on to new prospects. The number of fraudulent clients on Upwork is apparently growing by the day, but there are also millions of new and genuine jobs booked through Upwork every year (approximately 1.3 million in 2022).

I had not confirmed my account yet and Upwork asked me to confirm my account. Could this be why it was suspended?
Sep 21, 2023 02:26:51 PM by Sheikh Mohd Z
Do not be disappointed!
I have two projects and both are fraud.
Though I become frustrated.....

Hi Amit,

I'm worked hourly My total earning already added on my profile for previous week. But its still on review. It'll close may be tomorrow sunday. In the transaction history I see its pending. However I didn’t work for my clients in this week. But I see now my client profile is suspended. Though my payment in still on review.
Could get my payment for my previous work?
Sep 29, 2023 06:30:47 AM by Luiggi R
Hi Yeasir,
It's normal that the funds for the hours you completed last week are still under review since, based on the Weekly Billing Cycle, this is the client's review period, which ends today at 23:59 UTC. Your funds should then move to the Pending section of your Reports Home Page and become available the following Wednesday.
Please know that if your client is suspended, there is an issue with their account that they need to resolve. You will not be able to continue to bill that client through Upwork, and you shouldn't resume working with that client until the hold is lifted. There are many possible reasons this could occur, though we cannot share the specifics regarding your client’s account due to privacy concerns. I have checked the account and would like to assure you that your client is already in correspondence with our team about their support ticket.

Sir, I wanted know that is my payment already transected from him before being his account suspended? Please say I'm depressed
Sep 29, 2023 11:55:30 AM by Luiggi R
Yeasir, I'm afraid I won't be able to confirm that right now. If there are any issues with billing your client and the payment for the hours you've completed with them, you will be notified by the appropriate team.

Hi
It's an hourly contract, and a payment of $315 was refunded to the client without our permission. Please resolve this.
Oct 3, 2023 01:24:26 PM by Arjay M
Hi Puja,
I'm sorry to learn about the sudden and unexpected refund that's been processed by your agency. I looked into the job you're referring to and found out that the contract is on hold because we are reviewing a problem with your client's account. You cannot continue to bill that client through Upwork until the issue is resolved.

Recently I was hired by a client for a React Website Developer project, client ask me to buy a theme then work on it. I asked him to send the advance payment first then I will buy, I bought three themes for him from my funds after I recieved payments in Upwork account. It was August 17, I spend around $900 for theme purrchase after all the funds were showing in my account inside upwork.Next Day that contract is paused by Upwork. Now it's been more than one month and that amount is not paid by Upwork. Please check the attached screenshot. When I will recieve that amount.

Hi Annie,
I recieved the reply and they told me To resolve this matter, I suggest contacting your client to follow up to on the bonus pay issued on the contract and to process the payment successfully.
How I can contact a blocked client Whom I only knows byUpwork, I lost $700 here from my pocket. this is ridiculous.

Hi, I raised 2 tickets related to my pending funds. But they are marked as solved without any resolution.
My tickets are:
https://support.upwork.com/hc/en-us/requests/42882287
https://support.upwork.com/hc/en-us/requests/42880632
It says to contact the client to follow up on releasing the bonus funds but you guys blocked the client's account, how I can contact him?
**Edited for Community Guidelines**
It was showing the payment in pending on Upwork which is why I purchased the themes for the client. Why does Upwork show those funds in the account? How do I know if the payment is actually released or not? In this situation how we can trust Upwork to have our genuine funds in a pending state for the work we are doing because it took 2 weeks to release those funds?
Oct 3, 2023 11:38:51 AM by Sophie A
«Pending» means the client approved the amount to be taken from his payment method, it does not mean it is available to you. The amount still needs to go through the 5-day security period (where the method still needs to be successfully proccessed by the payment method issuer). In this case, if the payment was denied, it will remain Pending. When the payment is successfully processed, it will become Available.
