Hi Upwork team,
I am currently using Ubuntu 24.04 with the default GNOME Wayland session, which is also the default for most other distributions nowadays.
Unfortunately, the Upwork tracker is unable to capture screenshots in this environment, forcing me to revert to GNOME Xorg, which has several limitations compared to Wayland.
There are a few workarounds available:
However, none of these solutions are ideal. I believe many freelancers are facing the same issue, and it's very frustrating!
Please consider adding official support for Wayland. Thanks!

Hi Khanh,
I am sorry to hear about the trouble using the Upwork Desktop App on Ubuntu 24.04. I understand the frustration and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused to you.
Upwork screenshots are no longer supported on Wayland. I will be sure to share your feedback with the relevant team. Meanwhile, if you’re unable to use the Time Tracker after the latest Linux update, we recommend using the Xorg windowing system. To activate Xorg:
Be sure to restart the app after making changes. Should you have any additional questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

The earliest report here was on April 2022. It's been 2.5 years since Wayland support was requested and Upwork has not fixed it nor updated their time tracking app. Don't hold your breath.

Seconding this, I've made my own thread about the same issue recently. Wayland is now the default on most Linux distributions, Xorg has its issues, which is why it's being replaced in the first place. While I'm grateful for Upwork, and the opportunities it's given me, I'd really wish they supported a standard Linux desktop instead of forcing their users to use deprecated technology.

I agree, wayland is the future. I have Asus Zenbook duo screens laptop, and its a sweet dev machine, some things just do not work well on X11, yes, we can switch to X11, but it is not a solution.

hi all, do we have an update for this matter already? it's annoying to have to switch back to legacy display driver like X11 just for upwork

It's ridiculous that Upwork, despite already having a version that supported Wayland, decided to roll back to the legacy display server—support for which is gradually being phased out in most modern distributions! Please add support for Wayland!

or at least hire one of the freelancers to fix it for you, im sure there are plenty of linux devs here that can figure this out

Upwork has been updated today. I was hoping they'd added Wayland support, but unfortunately, they haven't.

There are quite a "few" of linux users in Upwork but they don't seem to care about us very much...
