[Updated July 5, 2022] Recently, we expanded a test feature that improves filtering options for job searches to now include an option to filter jobs by the number of Connects that are required to apply.

When freelancers are on the Find Work page of their Upwork account, they’ll filter their job searches by selecting the magnifying glass icon next to Search for job. Freelancers will see Connects needed near the bottom of the page and can select among the following options:

  • 2 or less Connects
  • 4 Connects
  • 6 Connects

We launched a new test feature that helps freelancers filter job searches by regions, sub-regions, and international time zones. Starting May 23, half of all freelancers can see reordered and new filters, with the most-used filters open and the least-used filters folded up, when searching for a job on Upwork.

Previously, freelancers saw all the filtering options open and could only select individual countries under the Client Location filter. Now, the filters are reordered, and the new Client Location filter includes additional filters for regions, sub-regions, and international time zones. With improved filters, freelancers can find the best jobs that match their needs and interests.

This test was motivated by the feedback from over 12,000 responses to surveys and individual interviews where freelancers described the challenge of searching for jobs.

“Adding the ability to filter job search results by the client's time zone, in combination with the client’s country or region, was valued higher, especially by international freelancers,” shares Product Manager Pankaj M.

When freelancers are on the Find Work page of their Upwork account, they filter their job searches by selecting the magnifying glass icon next to Search for job. Half of all freelancers can see the reordered filtering options on the left side of the page.

Freelancers are guided to select the most-used filters that appear at the top as well as new filters for regions, sub-regions, and international time zones under Client Location.
