We’re excited to announce a new way to add a certification to your profile. Upwork is partnering with Credly, a leading digital credential platform, to expand the number and breadth of certifications that can be verified on Upwork.

Over the next several months, we will be changing our pricing structure for clients. Our goal is to simplify pricing by removing subscription tiers (with the exception of our Enterprise offerings) and moving towards an easy-to-understand fixed-percentage model.

Today we’re reintroducing the proposal boosting feature with some changes, but first, we’d like to share our findings from the test with you.

Enterprise clients can authorize up to four users to approve all contract offers before they’re sent to freelancers.

Last year, we announced testing of an availability badge. The test has ended and this badge is now available to all talent.  The availability badge is designed to provide talent with greater control over their invitation flow and ability to more easily communicate to potential clients that you are available for projects right now. You can choose to add an availability badge to your profile using Connects to more accurately signal when you become more or less available for new work.

US Tax law requires that Upwork provide certain US-based freelancers with IRS form 1099-K as proof of income. It has details that freelancers need in order to file their taxes or to apply for certain government benefit programs. Due to recent changes to US tax law (including The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021), some freelancers who did not qualify in the past may qualify to receive a 1099-K starting with the 2022 tax year. The new rule will be effective beginning with payment transactions settled after December 31, 2021.

Starting early next year, we will begin collecting Ukraine’s Value Added Tax (VAT) when talent and clients registered in Ukraine purchase Upwork services. Ukraine signed a new law on June 29, 2021 requiring Upwork to collect VAT for certain transactions.

We’re rolling out a new way to authenticate in Upwork’s mobile apps. Instead of authenticating by entering a password, enrolled Mobile App users will be able to authenticate using the same biometric (their face or fingerprint) that they use to unlock their mobile device. This feature provides you with another option for authentication wherever you usually enter your password on Upwork’s mobile apps.
