Adding <> around URLs seems to have added semicolons to my proposal

I've just submitted a proposal where I used angle brackets <> around URLs of my work to help differentiate them from my descriptions. It looked something like this:

"Describing my work on this project <https://www.upwork.com/>, describing my work on another project <https://google.com>."

I closely proofread my proposal before submitting it. But after submitting, semicolons appeared after every instance of >, leaving my writeup looking like this:

"Describing my work on this project <https://www.upwork.com/ >;, describing my work on another project <https://google.com >;."

This made my proposal (for a writing job, no less) look unpolished and unprofessional. But unfortunately, it doesn't look like I can do anything about it without withdrawing the proposal. Waste of Connects!

I'm open to learning — is there something about angle brackets being used in code that caused this to happen? I'll be sure not to use them in the future... but wanted to share and see what I must have missed.

Hi Lucy,

I appreciate you reaching out to us for help. I tried adding brackets  (or in HTML opening "<" and closing ">" tags) to a proposal and I'm able to replicate the issue. I also noticed the semicolon after the closing tag.

I've escalated your post to a support ticket so that our team of specialists can look into this. They will contact you as soon as possible and help you with this issue. Thank you for posting in the Upwork community.

For reference, you may check your ticket here.
