Desktop application's Messages doesn't show messages

For at least a month now, maybe a lot longer, I can't rely on the desktop Messages function to update. I see the "so-and-so is typing..." but then nothing appears. The messages however do appear on the Web version. Please fix the update mechanism in your desktop application.
