Messages to my Gmail but not in my Upwork Messages

**Edited for Community Guidelines**I received an email to my Gmail account with a message regarding a proposal. The message is not in my Messages in my Upwork account, but the proposal shows active. I can't reply to the client. I tried to reply from my Gmail message and then I received a notification that I have to use the email address from my Upwork account - which I did. 

The message (attached) is asking me to communicate via Skype for an interview. This makes no sense, and the client seems verified, so it's confusing. I'm leaning that it's a scam since it is not in my Upwork account, but the fact that the proposal shows active is curious.

I tried to submit a ticket which seems to be impossible even after the chatbot asks if you want to submit a ticket! I'm not sure Upwork is worth this effort. Any help is appreciated.
