1. you're very right. very few users read the forums. why? WELL hidden. even when found, it's difficult to navigate.
2. those who make it to the forum usually have a problem, not some big secrets to spill..
3. i am one of those who have no idea how this move [of upwork going public] will affect me. I'm not even sure what 'going public' means in this context -im not good with economy, and im not from the US. there are MANY users just like me...
your assumptions are actually facts.. and i'm a bit concerned now...
Irina,
I'm one of the MANY just like you. Also not a Wall Street expert. Honestly, I had to type on Quora "IPO" and "Upwork IPO" just to get an idea what's all these supposed to mean.
Yes, I'm also concerned. It's like the people are avoiding to discuss this important topic.

Nobody is avoiding anything. The fact is that discussing it is pointless, since nobody here knows any of the finer details of this affair. Upwork chose not to tell us about it, and since they won't discuss it or even comment on it, you, me, and everybody else will just have to wait and see what happens.

Reinier:
Thanks for your reply.
I know you are right. Personally I don't like changes [though I learn to live with them, of course].
I was trying to find out if this change will affect my work or my income, and how. I just somehow got the impression Wendy has an idea of what could happen to us, the users of the platform.

IMO this change will impact us all. Only time will tell if it'll be mainly positive or mainly negative as there most probably will be components of both.
At this point "it is what it is," and we're not in control. I've decided that my time will be best utilized on those things that I am more likely in control of; at least somewhat.

I wouldn’t pay much heed to the article “What Can Upwork IPO Learn From Freelancer.com’s Stock Roller-Coaster?”
We can’t compare apples and potatoes.
Upwork needs to go public to achieve its long-term goals.
And Upwork isn’t shooting arrows in the dark.
