How often do you catch clients with misleading location information?

It does not happen often but it still happened to me on more than just a few occasions.

For example, right now I am speaking with a client whose name is clearly Indian and his timezone is set to UTC+05:30 (New Delhi) but the country in his profile is USA and the city is also in USA. And his messages in the chat are timestamped +/- 2 hours from lunch (relative to UTC+05:30)

Another client's profile shows Australia and city in Australia but his timezone (as shown in the chat) is UTC+1. When I asked - he told me that he lived in Australia 10 years ago and is now in UK. And the company details in Upwork invoices are for an Australian company which does not exist anymore.

I can understand if a freelancer from Asia pretends to be from USA. But I would not expect this from a client.

Of course, there are clients or PMs from USA which set their timezone to India to be in sync with their contractor(s).

Or they simply forget to update their profile.

But the fact remains - sometimes the information is misleading.

So I wonder - how often ?
