I have a problem with understanding how Upwork operates. if a client hires me for instance, what should i do to ensure that they are genuine and will make the payments as agreed? Am asking this because, i have worked for two clients and they have refused to make payments. Kindly assist me on how thinhs are done here. I have successful stories of freelancers working here and i would wish to experience the same too.
re: "i have worked for two clients and they have refused to make payments"
This means you are using Upwork incorrectly.
The way I work, it is basically impossible to get ripped off like that. After completing 90 jobs, I have never worked on Upwork and had a client NOT pay me.
Do NOT work without an official contract that is listed on your "My Jobs" page.
Make sure client is "payment verified" before starting work. Log time worked with the time-tracking software. Write meaningful memos.
Do not work until the full amount you expect to get paid is funded. Do not accept a fixed-price contract until you have all information and input files necessary to complete the job. Then do the work. Then submit it immediately.
