Is this legit?

Hello fellow freelancers!

I haven't been looking for new clients since I'm working in an agency. Either way, someone contacted me because they "chose me" to be interviewed. Anyways, I replayed her proposal since money is always a good thing hehe, and she replied with a document that (within the document) has a link to another website.

Has this ever happened to you? I haven't clicked the link since idk if it's malicious or not.

It is a telegram link to me.

Also, this "client" has not a verification payment profile.

I'm pretty sure it's a scam but I haven't spent too much time on this platform so I would like to know if this happens or not.

Thanks!

No, it is not legit. It's a scam looking for a victim; don't let it be you.

Yes, the "t.me" is Telegram, and while it probably isn't a virus-filled link, it is against the Upwork TOS to contact anyone off the platform unless you have a contract. Not only will you lose money, but you can also be kicked out of Upwork.

Since you haven't been looking for clients on your own, you need to educate yourself. Read this: https://community.upwork.com/t5/New-To-Upwork-101/The-advantages-of-freelancing/ta-p/1084668

Some of it, you know, but since it is new to you, you must learn the rules. If you follow the TOS and the advice from the community, you are unlikely to lose money.

Before you apply for a job, read this excellent information from community member Wes: https://community.upwork.com/t5/Community-Blog/Top-Red-Flags-for-Scams-From-Community-Member-Wes-C/b...

Scams and thieves are all over the 'net, and Upwork is no different. Upwork does not protect anyone, so you must protect yourself and follow the TOS.
