How does Upwork verify a legitimate client. Can they check and see if **Edited for Community Guidelines** is legitimately hiring people. I submitted a proposal on Saturday, interviewed that day by a **Edited for Community Guidelines** but there are a couple of things that raised my suspicion. First of all, he wanted me to deposit a check in my account so I could purchase software versus sending me the software? The pay seems overexaggerated for a data entry position.

re: "How does Upwork verify a legitimate client."
Upwork does not do this.
There is no list of legitimate and illegitimate companies.
You do not understand how Upwork works.
There are no legitimate clients or illigitimate clients. Don't think that way. Scammers send you the names of real companies, in order to trick you.
Do not look at the client's name. Do not google the client's name.
Look at the job offer. Look at the Upwork history. Look to see if the client has hired before. Look at what they are asking you to do. Make sure they are payment verified before you start working.
