Your profile/account name have to be your actual legal name, and your photo has to be an actual photo of yourself.

To add to what Virginia has shared, changing your name to anything other than a recognized name variation (for example James to Jim) will require ID Verification. Remember that the Upwork Identity Policy requires that you use your own real name, and own image on your account.
