I have new to Upwork and very sceptical about the whole process. Is there any advice that may be given for this process. For example, what to watch for, or just the general process in your experience

Sure. Start by reading the forum. Pages 10 at least. There are a lot of practical tips here.

Also fill your profile, add portfolio.
