Problem with project

Hello,

I am rather new on upworks and got a following problem. I made my bid on a project I was asked to explain the way I would be implementing this, and send in a small demo. I ended up sending 2 different demo versions, and spent about 2 work days (40 h/hour) doing that. The customer told me he's satisfied, and disappeared. My attempts to contact him failed, and on upworks, his state is always gray. I fear he exploited me to find a solution, and implement it himself. Is there a way I can charge him somehow?

No contract = no pay. Even if the client wanted to pay you (he doesn't), it would not be possible without a contract.
