So, am I a "Freelancer" or a "Contractor"?

I thought the official term for those hired for work on Upwork was "Contractor". Am I out of date?

No way. I don't believe it. Smiley Embarassed

But "agency contractor" still seems to apply. That's a bit confusing.

I feel weird calling myself a freelancer, but when I do contracting it's less "free" than freelancing. I still get chained to a desk but I don't have the PTO and benefits of the full timers. So I always see contracting as a higher salary for 9-5 work but less perks and freedom. It's cool for a few months but it gets old when you're not paid for a day off just because contractor.

I like to think of myself as a mercenary.

I keep calling myself a pirate in here. I'm gonna start telling people that's what I do. I am a pirate.

The terms "freelancer" and "contractor" are used interchangeably.

I prefer to use "contractor," but on Upwork, it means the same thing.

I mainly only use the term when writing in the Community Forum.

When I work with clients who pay me to do stuff, or when I act as a client and hire people to do stuff, I never actually use either term.

The terms may be used interchangeably but No, they don't mean quite the same thing, which is why the wording was changed to Freelancer on Upwork except for those who work through agencies.
