Why does the Upwork Talent Specialist send such a job offer?

This morning I received an invitation from an Upwork Talent specialist for an enterprise client. The original message of the client has been attached. First thing I have to do to fill in a form with my personal data that is outside of Upwork. Questions to be sent to the client's gmail. And: The first 10 to 20 applicants who pass the screening process will receive a job offer on Upwork. More than dubious. The first thing I will do now is to report the job offer I have received through the Upwork talent manager. Takes a lot of time... Can bogus clients now engage Upwork Talent Managers?

Most Enterprise clients have their own registration system in addition to Upwork's. They hire and pay through Upwork.

 

Added bonus: No 20% fee with Enterprise clients by the way ๐Ÿ˜‰

If there are Talent managers that work for Enterprise client than I would expect at first that they do sent job offers that have all features of job offers that come from a bogus client and that do not insult Upwork's TOS asking for my email, trying to connect to an obscure gmail address, promising that the first 10-20 freelancers who reply get a job, not describing the task clearly, not introducing the company's name. Each bogus emails that arrive every day in my spam filter do not look less trustable. I have rejected this job offer and reported it.

Wouldn't fight the talent specialist over innocuous stuff for an enterprise client.

 

Thanks to the dummies who rallied against the Upwork Pro writing group, I got in and I'm enjoying a great client.

 1) Asking for your email in an invitation is not a violation

2) They did not promise that the first 10-20 get a job, they stated that the first 10 - 20 who PASS THE SCREENING get a hire offer (possibly for a paid test)

3) Many Enterprise clients DO keep their identity private until hire (and until you have signed an NDA)

 

NONE of that indicates "Bogus"

 

"Bogus" clients do NOT get to Enterprise status, "Enterprise" clients are huge companies with massive spending potential.

Thank you Valeria for your information. I have described why I felt uncomfortable. Especially, because all communication had to be outside of Upwork with an unknown person from an unknown client and a simple gmail address. If those processes in the initial stage could stay inside Upwork that would be much better. And a bit less secretiveness could also be helpful for me.

I got an invite to work with an Enterprise client a few weeks (months? What is time?) back and yeah: they had every possible red flag you can put on a job offer on Upwork, including paying via bonus instead of through a milestone.

 

The only reason I accepted was that they were an Enterprise client and had spent over a million dollars through the platform. No one spends that much on a scam.

 

I can see the logic behind it to a degree and I'd rather have these clients than not have them, but boy is it a terrifying experience to do absolutely everything that you'd normally run a mile from, so I can see why people would assume it was a scam. It sure looked like one to me at first.

FWIW, I had an Upwork Talent Specialist send me an invitation for a totally spammy, ToS-violating job. It wasn't for an Enterprise client, but the client requested a service barter rather than payment right in the job posting. The fact that it was sent to me by an Upwork employee blew my mind. Simply receiving an invite from a Talent Specialist doesn't mean it's legit. So, Margarete, you were wise to check it out and your gut feeling should be listened to even if it was a bit off in this particular situation. 

Upwork's implementation of this program is hurting its credibility. Someone needs to evaluate the processes and re-engineer the communications. 

Sometimes, I think it boils down to arrogance. I think (correct me if I am wrong) that enterprise clients pay Upwork a fee and so some of them (not all) feel free to write job offers that are instant hackle-risers. I know I have misread several enterprise clients as scammers, and a couple more whose demands were so autocratic, that I (politely) told them to take a hike.
