You can safely ignore him if no solution you propose to him is acceptable to him, but DO NOT ignore any notice from Upwork that the client has filed a formal dispute. Answer any such dispute and precisely follow the Upwork mediator's instructions for you.

If the client disputes and you can't work it out and you don't want to go to arbitration, the worst thing that happens is his money gets refunded. So, what do you have to lose by simply ignoring him?
