filing taxes with 1099 earnings

Hello,

I understand we should report earnings from UpWork projects in our taxes even if we don't get a statement. How do we generate the earnings from 01/2020 to 12/2020? I haven't been able to figure this out.

Thanks in advance.

Bruce,

If you want detailed financial information from Upwork about your income, fees, etc for 2020 your only choice is to:

a) Go to Reports/Transaction History on the main Upwork page
b) Adjust the statement period to the time period you want information for
c) Click on the Download CSV button

After the CSV file has been downloaded to your PCs hard drive:

d) Open the file using Microsoft Excel (other spreadsheet programs might work, too)
e) Save the file as an Excel file
f) Expand the column widths for each column so you can read all entries
g) Save the file again
h) Use Excel's Data/Sort function by highlighting all of the data (not including the column headings), then doing a sort using Column C (data "Type) and Column A (data "Date") on an ascending basis
i) You can then use Excel's Sum function for the data in Column J ("Amount") for each data type, giving you totals for Invoices (gross income), Service Fee (Upwork's fees), etc.

These various totals are what you'll use when filing your 2020 tax returns.

ok thanks, Will!
