Some listings want a turn around of less than a week but the listing itself is like 2 months old or more. When do you know alisting job is really not available? You can see that they are interviewing a few people but the status has been like that for weeks. Doesn't the job get closed out after they hire? Also what does it mean when it says like "20-50" proposals... does it mean that's the amount of proposals the client wants or the amount he has revieved? Thank you.

Postings are archived when they've been inactive for 30 days, so the only thing you know in looking at an old posting is that the client has viewed it at some point in the past month.

The number of proposals listed is the number of proposals already received. In that same area, you'll see information about whether anyone has been hired and how many freelancers the client interviewed or is interviewing.

In most cases, it's not worth bidding on a job that old, and the client has probably wandered off, but if you see something that's an especially good match it may be worth a couple of connects to find out.

The job is not automatically closed when someone is hired. The client is offered the option of closing the job on hiring, but many (perhaps most) do not, and those jobs stay in the feed until they time out.

Hi April,

If the client doesn’t close the original job post after hiring, the job post remains listed on Upwork. Many clients are reluctant to close their job post, even after they’re finished hiring because when a job post is closed, the client looses any shortlists, messages, or offers.

Maybe it's time to change something about it so that clients become less reluctant?
