All Upwork users are advised not to trust **Edited for Community Guidelines**, based in San Francisco, California, USA. It is a company providing digital services. A few days ago, they posted a job on the Upwork platform. When I submitted my proposal, they accepted it. They gave me a project task, and I successfully completed and submitted it. But, in the end, they did not pay me, and thus, I was scammed by them. The project worth was 3600 US dollars.

Hi Irfan,
I'm sorry to learn about your recent experience. I do not see any active or closed contracts on your account; as a reminder, you should not start working on a project before a contract is in place, and you can see it on your My Jobs page.
Communicating outside of Upwork before a contract starts is a violation of the Terms of Service. This is a common tactic scammers use to take advantage of freelancers. Additionally, accepting payments outside of Upwork is considered Circumvention and is against the rules.
A real client will never ask you to give them money to start working, cash a check for them, work for free, or provide your personal information. If you encounter these situations or suspect something is off, please flag them as inappropriate so the team can investigate them further. Please take some time to read through this article for more information on how you can stay safe on Upwork, and visit this blog post from our Community member Wes for common red flags for scams.
