VAT, but how? Please help me.

Hello to erveryone, as I am new to Upwork i have a question with the VAT-number.

Is there somehow a possibility to not supply Upwork with a VAT-number, as I dont need to open a Buisness as a Freelancer in Germany.

Could someone please tell what he did? (likely someone from Germany)

Hi Joshua,

You can work on Upwork without adding a VAT number, in which case Upwork will assess VAT on services provided by our company to you, as a resident of an EU member state, and remit the charge to your government. For more details please read the following Help article.

 As was already mentioned, you don't need a VAT number to work on Upwork.

And yes, in Germany you don't need to formally register a company as a freelancer. You still have to notify the Finanzamt though, as you then owe income tax.
