We’ve Updated Our Community Guidelines

With the recent updates to the community and the increase in new members, we wanted to take this time to release an update to our guidelines and share a message from our moderators. As we continue to make updates to the community, please keep in mind that our primary goal is for everyone to find helpful information, connect with others, and have fun along the way. Frequently Asked Questions 

In anticipation of updates along with new members, we put together a few frequently asked questions to help. Please don’t hesitate to send a private message to a moderator if you have any further questions. 


My post was moved, but I didn’t violate any of the guidelines? 

On occasion, we will move discussions if they belong in a different category. We will also close/remove duplicate discussions and/or replies that we deem inappropriate or disruptive to the community, including revoking kudos given on those posts. Our intention is not to censor but to foster an environment that is easy to use and productive for all those involved.


How do I report inappropriate content?

If you find a post that violates the community guidelines, we encourage you to report it! To notify the community team and flag content:

  1. Click on the three dots at the top right-hand corner of the post you wish to report 
  2. Select ‘Notify Moderator’ from the drop-down menu
  3. Use the freeform copy box to explain why you feel this content is inappropriate 
  4. Click ‘Notify Moderator’ 


Moderators are notified instantly and review every post flagged. Please keep in mind you will not be notified of the decision.  


I flagged a post as inappropriate—why is it still up?

Rest assured, our moderators review every flag. That said, moderators aren’t obligated to remove any content, even if it violates the community guidelines.


A message from our moderators 


We feel very fortunate to have a diverse community. We see the Upwork Community as a destination for professionals with different backgrounds, perspectives, and approaches to network, learn, and grow together. 


A couple of things to keep in mind as we move forward:

  • New members may receive additional attention from our team and existing members as they ask for guidance and feedback. We wanted to take a moment to recognize and thank those members that are continually providing great advice with kindness and professionalism, defining the true meaning of community.
  • We know that miscommunication may occur due to different communication styles; sometimes, a response may come across as direct or have a different tone than intended. We’ve found it’s best to assume positive intent and focus on the information. Please remember to treat all with a welcoming, respectful, and understanding tone.
