Upwork is a platform that connects clients with freelancers who offer various services on the platform. Clients pay the freelancers directly through Upwork, without any service fees to Upwork. Upwork's affiliate, Upwork Escrow Inc., serves as an escrow agent and transfers the funds from the client to the freelancer. Generally, since the service fees are included in the payment to your freelancer via the escrow service, we do not think a W-9 is required.
