1099-MISC and IRS

Since upwork does not send 1099-MISC anymore to freelancers, does it also mean it does not report income to IRS for individual freelancers as well? If they do report to IRS and you calculate your income manually, I imagine there is 100% chance of what you calculate and what is being reported will be different numbers and might trigger audit. So if somebody knows, does Upwork stopped providing 1099-MISC and reporting your income to IRS or it just stopped providing 1099-MISC but still reports to IRS?

In my experience, they do not report your earnings.  At least, over the last 7 or so years, I've never had an issue with the IRS.

Why would they require SSN if they don't report earnings to IRS I'm wondering.

Well, if you earn a certain amount through Upwork (I think it's 10k/ year), they will issue you a 1099-Misc.
