I want to apply for a job that is perfect for my skillset but when I apply it says I do not mee the client's preferred qualifications. I haven't applied for any jobs yet so how can I have a job success score? What is 'include rising talent?

Before you start applying for jobs, make sure to read the terms of service and go through the academy courses so that you get a good grasp of how the platform works. It might seem boring, but it'll save you a lot of headaches moving forward.

Hi Emma,

Thank you for reaching out. This means that this client prefers freelancers who've had enough work experience to generate a Job Success Score.

In order to get a JSS, you need to complete:

  • Projects with 2 (or more) different clients
  • 4 (or more) different contracts within 24 months

More than 90% of freelancers have a score after 5 projects, and nearly all freelancers have scores after completing 8 projects.

We exclude clients whose freelancers report a history of unreasonable feedback so that their scores won't count against you, but that may mean it takes longer to accumulate enough reviews to receive your initial score.

**Edited to add**

You can still submit proposals even if you do not meet these qualifications and the client will still receive the proposal on their end, but the client will be notified that you do not meet the qualifications.

Thank you Annie, not sure how one gets a job in the first place, but really appreciate the response!

I rarely pay attention to the client's preferred qualifications like "Time Zone," JSS at least 90%," etc. I have applied for jobs where I didn't meet the preferred qualifications, and I was still invited and given the job because my cover letter and profile likely stood out. In my opinion, if you can afford to spend the Connects and you're perfect for the job, don't let those preferred qualifications stop you from applying.

If I'm not mistaken, the "Include Rising Talent" preference simply means the client is willing to accept proposals from freelancers who have the Rising Talent badge.

Oh, and your hourly rate is a bit low for a digital/web content specialist with SEO experience, and 8 years of experience as an Account/Project Manager.

Thank you so much for your advice
