Big Freelancer Security issue on Upwork

Lets day a client approche you with task and he created a hourly contract in which he assigned you a task and later keep adding them and increase hours

but he didn't have payment method verify later he cheated and files dispute again you now you are not under payment protection and amount is refunded

Another reson lets say client have asked you work on extra hours your timer is active the extra task is not in your memo so he can still file dispute  agains it and get removed that task

Most of client prefer zoom calls where they call ask to share screen and keep adding task where we can't record screen in zoom still we didnt get paid same happen with me.

In that case I can only suggest to learn more about how to prevent something like this in the future. You can look at this thread:

https://community.upwork.com/t5/New-to-Upwork/List-of-red-flags-for-scams/m-p/1017044/highlight/true...

Scams are ranging from the thousands of dollars one to the one you just experienced. They're all covered in that thread.

Mayur,

Are you saying you starting working on a project and tracking your work time properly on TimeTracker without the client's payment method being approved by Upwork?

Yes so the contract is not under protection most of time they refund it

Why don't you politely ask the client to verify his/her payment method?

Why would you work any contract for a client with an unverified payment method?  That's like one of the first rules of working on Upwork: Don't WORK until you have a contract in place from a client with a VERIFIED payment method.   The 2nd rule is to NOT work beyond the hours that the Upwork CONTRACT allows. You don't just work "extra hours" without a memo and the timer on.

Please don't report something as a "security issue" if you did something Upwork specifically advised/told you NOT to do.  I see no "security issue" here.

This is not a 'security' issue, this is a failure to understand the rules of how to use the platform properly and safely.  If you begin work for somebody that hasn't proved that they can PAY with a verified payment method, that is not Upwork's fault  The rules of the platform already tell you NOT to do that.

So you mean if someone haven't updated payment method and they are planning to do so are said you they will we should not work with them ?

and what about zoom call and continue task addition ?

Yes exactly.  You do not accept an offer until payment is verified. You do not work more hours than agreed and in the time tracker.  You write truthful and meaningful memos. You are not required to do whatever the client says, you must protect yourself and agree to the terms or you do not do the work.

Mayur S.,

The complete version of the text you quote clearly says, "The following cases do not qualify for payment protection...Payment for anything other than qualiffying hours, including...(p)ayments from clients who haven't verified their billing method."

https://support.upwork.com/hc/en-us/articles/211068288-Hourly-Protection

We can't expect Upwork to provide its excellent hourly payment protection if we work for a client whose payment method is not verified by Upwork. (I have never tried to do it, but I hope Upwork's TimeTracker software doesn't allow tracking time worked on projects where the cilent's payment method is unverified.)

Mayur,

Upwork also loses its fees when fraudulent clients don't pay for freelancers' work, but we can't expect Upwork to provide an Internet-based 100% fraud-free environment. So we freelancers have to play an active role in avoiding fraud.

We have to do our part to follow Upwork's rules, which are designed to help honest clients and honest freelancers successfully complete projects together. Some of these elements have to be taught the hard way; understanding all of the elements of successfully working as a freelancer on Upwork involve a very steep learning curve. New freelancers will often find that money can be lost along the way to better understanding..

Good luck on your future projects!
