Contract Suspended

I started an hourly contract and I have worked for over 12 hours. Now I have been informed that the contract is suspended as Upwork is carrying out an investigation. So what will happen to the 12 hours worked?  Will I be paid?

Hi there,

There are two reasons why your contract may be paused:

  • Your client has decided to pause your Hourly Contract: If no work needs to be done at the moment, clients can temporarily and immediately pause a contract. This prevents hours from being logged on the contract, without the need to end it, until you are ready to proceed with the next part of the project.
  • There is a problem with your client’s Upwork account: In this case, your contracts with them will be paused automatically and you cannot continue to bill that client through Upwork until the issue is resolved. There are many possible reasons this could occur, although we can’t share the specifics regarding your client’s account due to privacy concerns.

You can check out this help article to learn some tips on what you can do if your contract is paused.

Thank you so much. I got worried thinking that I won't earn anything after working so much.

Hi,

I need information about a contract that is due on May 26. Yesterday, I received a notification on May 24, that "Your contract Italian History Essay Writer has been ended." This was a contract I was hired for by**Edited for Community Guidelines** I contacted the client, but he is not sure about it and still wants me to work on the project. I am clueless in this situation and unsure if I should listen to the client or not.

Additionally, I am seeking clarification on why this contract was ended by Upwork. If there was any violation, could you please specify what it was? I am always very careful with the projects I work on, and the sudden ending of this contract without notice was upsetting and confusing for me.

Looking forward to your response.

Hi Urenab,

I'm sorry to learn about this experience. I see that the team has emailed you with more information about the job you're referring to and why it's been removed from Upwork.

As also mentioned in the email, please be aware that the work a client requests must comply with the rules and policies of the academic institution where it will be submitted. On Upwork, you can help with proofreading, editing, data gathering, or research for projects if the school/institution in question allows that type of assistance.

Thank you for contacting us here in the Community and sharing this.

My Upwork client account has been put on hold after an unsuccessful payment attempt. I have updated my billing information and would like to know how to resolve this issue and get my account reactivated as soon as possible.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

My contract has been restarted. I tried to add my hours but it's saying: company has been suspended?

Hi,

One of my contracts has been paused by UpWork 6 days ago saying they need to investigate my client's account. I got in touch with my client and the client looked into it and found nothing wrong at his end. I believe he did look into it as he also gave me a raise while at it. But the contract is still paused, I contacted UpWork support requesting to let me know what is the issue so that I can communicate that with my client and he can specifically look into it to fix it. But UpWork support refused  to share what exactly is wrong with my client's account. Has anyone else faced this issue? I really need to get the contract reactivated ASAP. Any help will be much apprecited.

Thank you!

Hi Atanu,

As the team indicated via your ticket, if there is an issue with your client’s Upwork account, your contract with them will be paused and you will not be able to continue to bill that client through Upwork until the issue is resolved. There are many possible reasons this could occur, though we cannot share the specifics regarding your client’s account due to privacy concerns. I have checked the account and would like to assure you that your client is already in correspondence with our team about their support ticket.

We advise waiting for the hold on the contract to be lifted before taking any action or doing any additional work on it. For more information, please check out this help article.

Hi, I've worked with a Client, Submitted my work. Contract Ended and got a mail the I've received a Bonus payment from the client. But also getting a message that "We are investigating a problem with **Edited for Community Guidelines** account. Please do not resume work until the contract is active again."

I'm confused like even after getting a Bonus payment email why I'm getting this message on contract page? Can someone elaborate please.

Those are two different things.

On one hand, your client decided to grant you a bonus. That was validated and got to you.

On the other hand, the client as an "issue" or irregularity with Upwork. Most of the times your contract gets on hold is because the client's wallet ran empty of money - which implies Upwork cannot garanty the payment for hourly paid contracts. If it's not that, it can be because they outpassed the terms and conditions.

Hi Satnam,

Thank you for reaching us out and for sharing your concern about your contract. I have reviewed the information and it appears that the contract has been closed and the bonus payment is on "Pending" status. I’ve also checked and see that the message you see in All Contracts’ page means that there is some issue with the client’s account. For security and privacy reasons, we are unable to provide specific details about another user. It will be best to reach out to your client directly for further clarification.

I’m sorry to hear that the message has caused confusion for you. Your feedback is important to us, and I have shared it with our team for further review. I’d like to share with you as well this help page to learn more about How Upwork protects your payments.

Logged in today to see that three of my clients' accounts have been suspended and our contracts paused. One of them is a client of two years—a legitimate publishing company. Another is someone I've been working with consistently for about 8 months with no issues. The other is very sporadic, and I'm not really concerned if I lose them as a client because we don't do too much work together.

It's just a bit odd to me that all of their accounts have suddenly been suspended.

Anyone else experience anything like this? Is something going on?

Interesting!
I believe their card declined or something like that happened.
But all at the same time? this is new.

I've worked with a client for hourly and after 7 hours of work it's showing "currently restricted from this conversation" in Inbox.
There will be any problem of getting payment for 7 hours ? Or I'll get the payment for them in the weeks end ?

Hello John,

Thank you for reaching out. If there is an issue with your client’s Upwork account, your contract with them will be paused and you will not be able to continue to bill that client through Upwork until the issue is resolved. There are many possible reasons this could occur, though we cannot share the specifics regarding your client’s account due to privacy concerns. To clarify your payment concern, please note that hours worked before the contract was paused may be covered by Upwork Hourly Protection.  For more information, please check out this helpful article.

I am new to Upwork. Just on July 30 I got offered and hired as Shopify Store Growth Specialist for live Auction;this contract is being put on Pause.
I wanted to know whether client has paused the contract or it's because the client's account is suspended. I can see the suspension written in the contract site. Not sure if that means a suspended client or a suspended contract.

How this will get solve?

Hi Ganga,

I checked the contract you are referring to and can confirm that it is not paused. If you saw that message earlier, it's likely that it was paused temporarily because of an issue with your client's account, but it is no longer paused.

Hi Carolanne,

Thank you for reaching out with your concern about your paused contract. I would like to clarify that any work completed during a contract pause is not covered by Upwork’s Payment Protection programs. For hourly contracts, don’t worry, hours that you billed prior to the contract being paused are still eligible for payment protection. You can also visit this helpful page for additional information.

I checked and see as well that you have an open support ticket and the handling team is currently reviewing your concern. Please allow more time for our team to review your case and respond accordingly to your ticket. You will be notified of their response.

My Earnings is still pending after my five-day security period has passed and still pending

Hi Theophilus,

Thank you for sharing your concern. I'd like to clarify that bonuses appear as Pending in the Transaction History when initiated by the client. Once the the payment has been successfully charged on the client's end, the date of availability will display next to the transaction. In case the payment is not successful, it will remain as Pending. There are many possible reasons this could occur, though we cannot share the specifics regarding your client’s account due to privacy concerns. It would be best to reach out to your client directly so they will be able to check their account and advise you accordingly. I would like to let you know as well that Bonus payments do not qualify for Upwork Hourly Protection.
