How to Avoid Scams on Upwork, as you all face scammers while applying for a job. They send you a code to run and test, and certainly, your laptop/digital assets/digital wallets are being compromised.
what is the best way to handle these bad people?
Thanks

The best way to handle this type of scammer is to avoid them. There is no reason to receive code and test it on a production system, personal computer, or work laptop. Most professional developers I know use a computer designated only for testing. Meaning, the laptop contains no personal files/data, it is not connected to the Internet, and it can be easily wiped--over and over again--if necessary.
Go here and read to learn about the types of scams you might see on Upwork.

How to avoid scams is by experience. By knowing about it. Look here for a start.
I don't believe it when people said that "common sense" and/or "following the rules" are the ways to avoid scams. The passphrase stealing trick you described has got into quite a few people here and some have lost thousands. They can still be scammed even if they have 'common sense' and 'followed the rules'. They got scammed because they didn't know, and maybe because they didn't have enough precautions by using the same environment for work and opening their wallets. Quite tricky isn't it?
The system can/should actually do something to protect its users from getting scammed repeatedly. But forget it, it's Upwork.
ps: took too long to write, didn't realize that Clark had already posted 😁
