If we withdraw a proposal, do we get the 'connects' back?

I searched but didn't see the answer. Anybody know? Thanks!

No.

The only way you get the connects back is if the job is canceled.

Two of the Jobs I applied were cancelled, but I did not receive any connects... Is this any kind of policy that I missed?

Ah.. yeah, I also received an email that I was being refunded 10 connects as the refund was delayed... but nothing was refunded...

Hi Jamshid,

One of our team members will reach out to you via ticket as soon as possible and assist you further with your connects. Thank you.

I just discovered most of the projects I apply for always have "withdrawn" and my connects are not returned. I have over 30 withdrawn job postings, and none of my connects was returned for these jobs. What do I do?

Stop withdrawing proposals? There is no upside to it.

You don't get connects back for withdrawn proposals.

Wow! and this is the reply you give??

Client changed the spec after I submitted proposal, so i withdrew it... what now??

You made it look like he withdrew himself from the job when the client actually did.  Try to be respectful or don't reply to anyone.

Hello sir, there should be a policy if clients do not respond or the hires someone else, we should get our connects back, please update

Hi Kuldeep,

Connects are only refunded when a client closes their job without hiring or we find a job post has violated our Terms of Service, but I'll share your suggestion with the team.

Please note that your profile must represent you as an individual and that all the information in your profile including your profile photo needs to be accurate, truthful, and verifiable.

Thank you.

This policy is not good, there are tons of reasons that we would need to remove like client changing specs, or bidding getting too low. Yes, you don't want people applying to tons of jobs, but at least give back 1/2 and round up/down!! Please, have some fairness.

Hi,
I'm a newly joined freelancer at upwork. Just wanted to know this regarding "connects".
A job that I sent a proposal became no longer available [**Edited for community guidelines** . So I withdrew my proposal when I saw that it was no longer available.
Therefore could I please know if I would receive my connects back, which was used for this particular job?
Kindly hoping for a reply.
Many thanks!

Hi Dinukshi,

We return Connects when a client closes their job without hiring or we find a job post has violated our Terms of Service. You can find more information here.

Thank you for your answer, sir

Could I please know more details about the "upwork readiness test"?

Thank you

Also could I please know whether we would receive new connects at the beginning of each month?

Hoping for a reply

Thank you

Hi Dinukshi,

Not exactly, you receive 10 free Connects at the beginning of your billing cycle. You can check the dates of your billing cycle in Settings > Memberships & Connects.

Thanks for your answer

So does it mean that for eg; if I have 30 connects at the end of the current billing cycle, I would get a total of 40 connects (including the 10 free connects) at the beginning of the next billing cycle?

Hoping for a reply

Thank you

That's right, Dinukshi. The free Connects will add to your existing balance up to 200.

Thanks for the feedback Andrea.

Just another question...a job that I sent a proposal was closed and no longer available. Also there was 1 hiring mentioned as well. Therefore I wouldn't receive my connects back right?

And also could I please know whether we would receive 40 free connects every time we do the "upwork readiness test" or is it only in the first time we do it?

Hoping for a reply

Thank you

Hi  Dinukshi,

40 Connects for passing the Upwork Readiness Test are awarded only once. Yes, that is correct, Connects are not returned in the case where the client has hired someone for the project.

Thank you!

If job is closed and expired in this case what will happen?

Upwork should return the Connects if we are not working with client. This is totally our loss

You seem to misunderstand the circumstances in which connects are returned:

1) If the client proactively closed the job post without having hired anyone

2) If Upwork closed the job post down for a violation of the terms of service.

3) Special "Beta" job posts with the blue dot which declare that connects are refunded if the client does not hire anyone and the job post times out without anyone having been hired.

Connects are not returned if

  • you withdraw your proposal
  • the client hires someone else
  • the job post times out after 30 days of inactivity (unless it's one of the special Beta ones with the blue dot)

In my opinion connects should be refunded if client  hires someone else as we are already paying a fees to upwork for each task.

agree with you

I agree

Couldn't agree more.

This will be good especially for new beginner freelancers. It can serve as more motivation to apply for more jobs and stay Upwork

That is exactly what it is trying to prevent, not to encourage.

One would think, right? I need to look at a different platform. Too expensive here any way.

agree!!

What if the client changes the job spec. just after you submit proposal, and you withdraw the proposal because of the spec. change?

This happened today.

Ridiculous.

This discussion is really helpful. In other Plateform, people don't usually give suggestions.

Sometimes client hire only 2 or 3 instead of 10 as the job posting . In that case what happened ?

Thanks for your answer

Seriously!

Hi Bud,

No, we don’t get the connects back if we withdraw a proposal.

We get the connects back if the job is cancelled (by Upwork or the client), and that too within a certain period of time.

"Certa bonum certamen"

Thank you for the answer. It was helpful
