Low JSS

Hello, I was working on Upwork for about 2 months, having my clients satisfied with my work and giving me either 4.5, 4.7, or even 5 stars and awesome feedback, and all the work was done completely, when my JSS appeared it is 77%. How did this happen?

Additional notes:

- All contracts ended successfully when they offer me and I accept them, but not all of the interviews or invitations ended up being contracts or offers, Does this affect me?

- How can I overcome this problem as it destroyed my profile, reaching out to new clients became hard (I only have two long term clients, who came before this problem, how can I harness them to overcome the problem)

Thanks in advance 🙂

Public feedback does not affect JSS. But the private feedback does. Your JSS is low because the clients(Probably the projects ended with 4.5 and 4.7 stars) haven't given you good private feedback.

Hi Kingsley,

Your JSS can change for a number of reasons, even without recent activity. Your best JSS score will be displayed based on the rolling windows when it is calculated. Sometimes, new contracts are added that impact your JSS. Other times, old activity is aged out.

For example, a contract will no longer count in your six-month JSS window once it is six months and one day old.

Your JSS can change because:

  • You receive poor public or private feedback from one or more clients
  • You receive very positive public or private feedback from one or more clients
  • A higher-value job is added to your JSS and it outweighs lower-value jobs
  • Past jobs are no longer considered because they fall outside the time frame

Hey everyone,

I was looking forward to receiving my job success score - which finally happened today!

Although I only got 5 projects so far and all customers gave me 5 star ratings (there was one additional project which I ended the contract and offered the client a refund, as he wasn't able to use the script I developed (although the script did exactly what the client asked for), my JSS is only at 76% (I guess there is at least one client who wasnt as satisfied as he claimed to be... the "clients who would recommend you" score is at 80%). I know that the JSS depends on various criteria (not only on the private feedback), however my JSS seems to make it even more difficult to win projects now. Does anyone had similar experiences or any idea what I can do to win projects now that my JSS is so low?

How can I effectively improve my Upwork Job Success Score (JSS) without securing new jobs, especially when a low JSS is hindering my ability to land new projects?

Despite being closing and finishing few contracts in past 2 months, my JSS is not changing. It stays on same %.

There must be few contracts rolled out and few contracts added in past 2 months and it should change my JSS.

Hi Haseeb,

I can confirm your JSS is accurate. Remember that your JSS is based on your 3-, 6-, 12- and 24-month history in the marketplace and calculates a score for each. The best score out of these moving time windows is your JSS. You might want to check this help article for more information.

Hello, the updation date for stats on Upwork was yesterday, and all my stats were updated except JSS. Kindly help me out.

Hi Ahmar,

If the JSS you're seeing on your "My Stats" page is 95%, that score is accurate. Feel free to visit this help article to learn why your score may or may not change.

Unsuccessful interviews or invitations usually do not have a direct impact on your JSS. However, repeated instances of sending proposals and not getting hired could potentially affect your overall profile reputation.

Hello, I'm Ilson and I have a problem with my Jss. The problem is that the customer with whom I signed a contract with an hourly rate made a mistake in choosing the hourly contract but was more fixed rate than he had to do, so he decided to end the contract to offer me another fixed rate contract. since the contract is finished without a payment being made I saw my JSS decreased considerably. Please help me..

Hi Ilson,

I am sorry to hear about the drop in the JSS, but I am afraid that I won't be able to comment on an individual score or how specific contracts affect it. Factors such as private and public feedback, the dollar weight of the projects you've completed, and the long-term relationships with your clients can have an impact on your overall score. Hi Upwork Support,

Can you please renew my Job Success Score? Because it is up to 1 year since I started working on this platform. I have gained just 2 to 3 negative feedbacks & by this, I got now a low success score.

It's a kind request that please renew my JSS.

Best Regards,

Ibtisam N.

Hi Ibtisam,

The Upwork system takes snapshots of your 3-, 6-, 12- and 24-month history in the marketplace and calculates a score for each. The best score out of these moving time windows is your JSS.

Four different Job Success Scores are calculated every two weeks:

  • Your average JSS during the past 24 months
  • Your average JSS during the past 12 months
  • Your average JSS during the past 6 months
  • And your “Trending JSS,” which we calculate by adding your average JSS for the past 6 months with your average JSS for the past 3 months, then divide in half.

Note that any movement in this score (either up or down) reflects both recent activity and activity over a longer period of time (up to 24 months). Please check this help article for more information.

Hi Upwork Team, My JSS is very low due to some unresponsive clients. I have completed my work for my clients but they did not give me any review. In this way, my JSS is dropping and now it is only 21%. It has happened about 3 times with me. I completed my task but due to some unresponsive clients, my JSS  has become very low. due to this, I have not gotten invitations for a long time.

I highly request you remove those jobs and make a correct calculation for my JSS. It is a very humble request.

If you need any help then you can ask

Thank you in advance

Hi Mubeen,

I am sorry to hear about the drop in your JSS. Freelancers are no longer negatively impacted for not receiving feedback on their contracts from unresponsive clients, even if such contracts constitute a pattern.

Regarding your Job Success Score (JSS), it's calculated on 6-, 12-, and 24- months windows, and it is updated every second week on Sunday. There are many factors that go into the JSS calculation, including both private and public feedback, the weight of the contract, etc. You can check out this article for more information about that.

Currently, your account is not eligible to remove feedback. You can refer to this help page for more information.

Hello Upwork Support Team, recently my Rising Talent Badge has been replaced by JSS. But the issue is for the first time is showing 40% only JSS. Though I have completed my all job carefully and almost all jobs have 5* rating only one job has 4.55 rating. Can anyone explain why my JSS is 40% only ? Please see the attached file.

Hello, community!
I have a weird upwork job success score. My story is like this.
My account was suspended temporarily for an unknown reason. So I've contacted the Upwork support team and the account is reactivated again.
While my account was suspended, the Upwork app ended the contract with the Client automatically.
https://prnt.sc/VI1aKnKk6s97
After the account is reactivated, the client gives me great feedback about my work.
But I think private feedback of the contract is automatically set as low.
Please let me know if you have any suggestioin about this.
Best Regards!

Hi Lucas,

I am sorry to hear about the drop in your JSS. Job Success Scores reflect many factors, such as public and private feedback, long-term contracts, and repeat ones. You can monitor your Job Success Score on your My Stats page. Check out this guide to learn more about the factors affecting your Job Success Score.

Hi Mustafa,

I feel your pain. I used to be known as the JSS guy, and even i can say half of the Upwork support team knows me by that nickname. I'm one of the most vocal critics of how JSS is calculated.

When I first received my JSS, it was 83. I had 5 stars and good feedback from my clients for all the jobs i completed, but it didn't matter. I was furious, but there was nothing I could do about it.

Over time, thanks to God, my JSS started to rise to 100. After 13 weeks, I got the Top Rated badge. The secret to the drastic change on my jss was long-term clients. Of all the parameters that go into calculating JSS, long-term clients are weighted the heaviest.

So, my brotherly advice is to focus on building long-term relationships with your clients. Don't waste your time trying to resolve your JSS issue with Upwork support team or the community.

In case it helps, here are some tips for building long-term relationships with your clients:

  • Overdeliver. Exceed your clients' expectations and go the extra mile.
  • Be proactive. Communicate regularly and keep your clients updated on your progress.
  • Be responsive. Respond to your clients' inquiries promptly and professionally.
  • Be flexible. Be willing to work with your clients to accommodate their needs.
  • Be honest and transparent. Be upfront with your clients about your availability, pricing, and expectations.

If you follow these tips, you'll be well on your way to building a strong roster of long-term clients. And once you have that, your JSS will take care of itself without worrying about it.

Dear Upwork Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to request a review of my Job Success Score (JSS) on Upwork. I have recently encountered challenges with a few clients that have adversely affected my score, and I would like to discuss the possibility of a score adjustment.

I take great pride in my work and strive to provide the highest level of service to my clients. Unfortunately, in some instances, I encountered circumstances beyond my control that led to less-than-ideal outcomes for both myself and my clients. I am committed to learning from these experiences and improving my performance in the future.

I believe that a higher JSS accurately reflects the quality of work I consistently deliver and would greatly benefit my profile on the platform. I kindly request a review of my recent projects and client interactions to consider whether there is an opportunity to adjust my JSS accordingly.

I understand that Upwork's policies and guidelines are in place to maintain a fair and trustworthy marketplace, and I am committed to upholding these standards. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss my situation further with a member of your team to provide additional context and address any concerns.

Please let me know how I can assist in this process and provide any necessary information to facilitate the review. I value my presence on Upwork and am eager to continue building positive client relationships and contributing to the platform's success.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to the possibility of improving my JSS and continuing to thrive as a freelancer on Upwork.

It is simple. First work private feedback is unknow, may be not 10\10. Second with "Need to learn more" is bad for sure. Last without feedback. So you have bad + unknown private feedbacks, 21% total.

On the first and second jobs, I got 5-start ratings and only on one job i did not get any feedback and this should affect my JSS. because according to Upwork No Feedback Given does not affect JSS. Then why my JSS is 21%?

Due to my low JSS, i am not getting invitations from clients for a long time. So I think I should leave the Upwork.

Hello everyone! I'm currently engaged in 2 contracts that I've submitted the work, both clients were satisfied with results but none have responded for more than 2 weeks since then. They have not approved milestone but I was payed automatically after the 15 days.

My question is: if I finish the contracts and mark it as succesful, will the system really count it as job succesful? Will my JSS be impacted?

Thanks!

Felipe,

Private and Public feedback will change the JSS.

Hi,

I've completed few jobs in upwork with 5 start rating feedback. I wonder why my job sucess score represent such a lower value of 63%? . I'm pretty sure all of the clients are very much satisfied.

Thank you.

I have had a client who I assume left negative private feedback for no reason. His public feedback is very nice with 4.6 stars. It was a really simple, straightforward, quick job and there was nothing that went wrong and he was really polite, appreciative in messages and happy with the result. I have only had 6 clients so far, and after my 6th job I got the JSS score on my profile of 85%. Ever since then I haven't been able to get a single job. All of the written feedback on my profile, including that one is very positive, so I really don't think it's fair the amount of harm this is doing to my profile for literally no reason. Can I request it to be removed, please?

Hi Lazar,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I'm afraid that the option to remove a client's feedback is only available to Top Rated or Top Rated Plus freelancers. You can take a look at this article for more information and check out this page to learn how your JSS is calculated.

Hello,

I am coming here with a question and concern, about my JSS after one bad experience with a client my JSS  drops down to 93% and this is just from one client.

After 5 completed projects with 5 stars great review and private one, I dont understand why after today update JSS its stays again at 93%?

Can you please let me know  why its not reflected to my JSS?

After how many projects or good reviews I can restore my JSS to better %?

I really dont understand, I am so dedicated to build a great reputation here, and so disapointed that just one client ruin your hard effort. I would appreciete if you can answer to my questions

Thank you

Hi Nevena,

Thank you for reaching out. I checked your account and found that your JSS has increased to 94%. Your best JSS score will be displayed based on the rolling windows when it is calculated. Sometimes, new contracts are added that impact your JSS. Other times, old activity is aged out which also directly affects how your JSS moves.

Hello Upwork Team,
My success percentage is not moving, I have completed 1 successful project and now working on long term project with earning of 1k+ with a 5-star rating . but my percentage is not moving up. it is 83% since then I dont have any negative reviews.

I got 2 five star feedbacks last week. This week my stats updated but my jss is still the same 81%

The stars and rave reviews have little to no effect on the JSS. As khadija u said, the low JSS is due to private feedback .

khadija_sheikh24

Low jss is due to private feedback from client irrespective of 4-5 star rating in public.Hope it helps you
