I sent a proposal for a client 4 days ago and there is no update if I got rejected. Do clients usually make an update regarding this?

Hi Helena,
I understand it can be disappointing when you don't hear back from clients after submitting your proposal. It is not always a guaranteed interview after submitting a proposal; however, this gives you a chance that the client may be interested in working with you on the project.
You can continue submitting proposals to other job posts and raise your chances of landing a job. I've pulled a few resources that may be helpful to you. Check out these articles to help you create a profile that stands out and improve your profile title and overview. For some great tips on writing proposals that win jobs, check out this article.

You will not receive any intimation unless you get an interview message. You can see in your stats whether the proposal was viewed or not. Clients can check the proposals through their email and may discard even without opening it on the Upwork dashboard.
Some are here for window shopping or place ads in all possible marketplaces.
Apply and move on. It takes an average of 10 to 20 proposals to get a job. For some experts it takes less proposals, for competitive niches it's more.

Helena,
Most Clients never respond. Withdraw and click "Unresponsive" with a note.

Upwork says the average client takes three days to hire. Some clients take less time, some take more. The client may not have made a decision. As a freelancer, you apply and move on. Perhaps the client will contact you in a week, you never know. I have had clients contact me several weeks or even a month after a proposal. Life happens, even to clients. Sometimes things get in the way of hiring. Of course, there are plenty of people window shopping.
If you want the job, do nothing. If you withdraw, there is no advantage. In freelancing, you apply, and never look back. On job platforms like this, you will rarely, if ever, hear from a client who doesn't want to hire you.

Most clients get tens and hundreds of proposals. They simply don't have time to respond to them all. Look at it this way: if you send out a job application, you may get a call for an interview and you may not. If the employer isn't interested, you likely won't hear anything at all. And this is for a permanent working situation/relationship. Clients have even less invested in you as a freelancer.
Send a proposal and move on. In the end, you'll be glad you're not fielding dozens of rejection notes.
