Specialized Profile

Hi All,

How many Specialized Profiles can a Freelancer create/have at a time?

Thanks for your input.

Hi Uros,

Please be reminded that users are only allowed to have one main profile and having multiple accounts is a violation of Upwork's TOS. We know that you may have more than one skill to offer your prospective clients. That’s why we developed Specialized Profiles.

With a specialized profile, you can tailor your unique skills to your audience on Upwork and create variations of your profile that showcase your experience within specific categories. For example, you can separate the work you've done as a mobile game developer from your work as a translator or graphic designer.

By having a Specialized profile, your profile will contain an indicator that you have other specialized profiles, and the client will have the option to switch between those versions when viewing your profile (similar to how you switch between versions when editing your profile).

You can delete your Specialized Profile from Settings > Profile Settings. Please keep in mind, that if you only have one specialized profile, you will not see the option to delete or unpublish it. But you can always edit the information for accuracy and to reflect your current experience and skills!

Hi! I never realized until now that my Specialized profile lists some completed projects and my General profile lists others. I'd like to just have just one or the other. Is there a way to merge them? Or make one default? I'm afraid if I delete one, all the competed projects and ratings will go away. Thanks!

Hi Darin,

Are you concerned about some of your Work History not showing on your Specialized Profile? If so, please go to your Specialized Profile, scroll down to ''Work History and Feedback'' section of it and select the 'Pencil/Edit' button. Within this setting menu, you'll be able to select the Jobs relevant to your Specialized Profile and publish them accordingly. YOu can check this help article for more information.

Thank you.

Hi Kashif,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I checked but could not replicate the issue you are experiencing. Could you please confirm if you tried to clear your cache and cookies? If not please try and let us know if the issue persists so that we can assist you further.

Are you checking your profile while you are logged in?  Please know that the purpose of our logged-out site is to give prospective clients and freelancers a feel for what Upwork has to offer so that they can decide whether to join our platform; it is not intended to reflect all the jobs and all the profiles available on Upwork. That's the role of the logged-in site, which is only visible to our registered users.

Please note that some jobs are originally posted as private or visible to logged-in Upwork users only. Contracts formed based on those job postings will also not show in visitor view of your profile for privacy reasons.

Hello, Can I switch a specialized profile to a new one while I'm currently on my first contract using a specialized profile? Will there be a problem? Will my profile lose total earnings, total jobs, total hours, and work history? Thank you.

Hi Muhammad,

Your job will still be listed under your general profile. If you want to delete your current specialized profile and create a new one, you will be able to add your job again. Thank you.

To Whom It May Concern.

I am about to add a specialized profile to my Upwork profile. When clicked on the add button there is no option to continue to create the specialized profile.

Please find the screenshot in the attachment.

Looking forward to your response

Thank You

I am attempting to set up a specialized profile for voice over talent. I have it completed and would like to publish it but it is not allowing me to select publish. It is saying I need to "add at least one portfolio item". However, I have no portfolio yet due to being brand new. How can I post a portfolio item without getting hired first and how can I best guarantee hiring without being able to publish the specialized profile?

It doesn't have to be something you were hired on Upwork for. It can be anything you have the rights to distribute. It doesn't even have to have been a job at all. Just record something that showcases your abilities and put that up. Sure, a previous Upwork contract might carry a little more weight as it can be linked directly to the contract in question, but it's not required.

So basically just make sure you have a decent microphone, a quiet, noise/echo-free space, and in the words of the Booth Junkie himself, "Get in there and record something amazing."

Hi Chad,

Michael shared some great advice regarding what you can add as your portfolio items. I can confirm that it doesn't have to be work related to an Upwork contract. We encourage freelancers to add portfolio items when they create their profile so they can best showcase their talent and get to a successful start on Upwork.

Make a portfolio so then you can submit it. Go if you can run Photoshop or Canva website make gig image (Portfolio).

For example; I am Professional Voiceover artist something like that then upload it here.

Hi! I have two (2) specialized profiles. One is "Quantity Surveying" and another one is "Electrical Engineering". For unknown reasons, the "Quantity surveying" profile turned to the "Civil Engineering" profile. And all of my applications submitted with "Quantity Surveying" profile turned to "General Profile". I can't find an option to return it back to the original "Quantity Surveying" profile or tab. Please advice. Kindly see attached.

Hi Elmo,

Unfortunately you will not be able to edit the title of your specialized profile. You will need to delete the profile and then add it again with the correct title. Thank you.

Hi Goran,

The "Quantity Surveyor" specialized profile/tab is not anymore available in the option? I can't find it anymore in the specialty selection. Many thanks!
