Upwork Customers don’t respect us!

Yesterday I saw A job and I applied the client replied we started discussing the job and everything was fine, he sent me the contract it was 12:19am to start. the work had a lot of inconvenience he told me to create a design on photoshop the file he had was xcf from GIMP. After that we settled down and solved the problem. 3:08 am he tells me that the work I have done is perfect so me it was late I fell asleep to wake up at 8:00 am as usual when I woke up now and I checked my upwork message this morning i saw
3:22 am he tells me that it took me 4 hours he does not need my work while 14 minutes before he told me that everything is ok with the work I delivered he terminates the contract and approves a $1 milestone in a $60 contract just to mess up my page with a bad review. What I want Upwork to do for freelancers. Customers should know here is neither chat gpt. We are sacrificing humans who stay here and the customers don't even have a drop of respect for who we are and represent on this platform. Upwork I know you prioritize customers over us serving them. The treatment that customers give us is really not good. and sometimes we have customers who make us have a bad day just for an answer that lasts 1 minute we are forced to lose our creativity and we can lead to being frustrated and becoming upset or losing inspiration for others contract that we already had in progress. Please yes the client is King Upwork, but I don't know do something because every freelancer goes through this kind of stuff and we say we won't work around here anymore?? Upwork will be nothing without us also don't just listen to the client's version to judge us by our JSS sometimes you have to agree with the freelancer when he is also right

Mardala,

Check the powers that be on this, I think you can give him a refund and you can dodge the bad review. For a dollar, I certainly wouldn't want to see my record go down in flames.

Meanwhile, do Upwork clients respect us??? Of course they do; why else would they offer $10 for someone to write a hundred thousand word novel?

The public review, yes, but not the JSS impact of private feedback.

At least the JSS impact of a $1 payout is about as small as it can get.

he purposely paid the $1 to smear my page I already refunded the customer I don't know

What is important is what freelancers do for themselves. Whether you are working through Upwork or directly with a client or through another platform, it is your job as a business owner to manage your client relationships. For example, you should never do more than $1 worth of work on a milestone funded for $1. And, set reasonable boundaries. If you don't want to work until 3 am (quite reasonable) say "I'm sorry, it's after midnight. I can get to this first thing in the morning if that works for you." If it doesn't, let them find someone else who will stay up all night.

Listen Tiffany the client doesn't activate a $1 millestone to start the work. The work was for $60 all the money was funded. When she saw i was unavailable she end the contract and paid $1 just to make the bad review appear on my profile

That means the rest of the money is still in escrow. The client would have to request the balance be returned. If you didn't agree to that, you would have the opportunity to go through mediation.

And, just so you know, quite a lot of clients DO activate the initial milestone for a tiny amount of money, and quite a lot of freelancers DO make the mistake of going on and completing the whole project with nothing more than that funded.

This client had no mercy and integrity. They didn't realize that they stole your time.

The consequence will find them.

Since when is it that easy for a client to get their escrow amount returned to them? I only work on hourly contracts, so I may be wrong about this.  But I thought if a milestone is funded and the client wants the escrow returned, Upwork sends a message giving you an option to accept or refuse their request.

It sounds like there may have only been $1 in the escrow to begin with. Did you check to see if that milestone was fully funded with the $60?

Yes it was fully Funded and once the client End the contract he decide to send $1 I've been refund the $1 1-3 hours ago i hope the Public feedback will disappear

It is NOT easy for a client to get escrow funds returned to them.

There IS NO BUTTON that a client can click to do that unilaterally. A client can only get escrow refunds sent back to him if the freelancer agrees to a refund.

I know you refunded the $1, but did you also refund the original $60?
