Upwork's Real Hire Rate: 19%?

Hi all - This is something I've been meaning to do for a while.

I studied all the jobs I've applied to so far in 2024 (total of 309 jobs).  I was curious to see what the outcome of those jobs were.  Here's what I found out:

How many hired?  59 (19%)

How many did NOT hire? 216 (70%)

How many did neither 34 (11%) --> Note, these may hire or not over coming weeks.  All jobs are older than 3 days.

My field is Design/Creative.  (Video Production/Editing/Animation speciality).  I would be curious to see if these kinds of percentages vary across other fields.

And if you're curious how many of those jobs I was hired for, the answer is 1.  (0.3%),  I am Expert Vetted, 100% JSS, many years of experience, bla bla bla.

Upwork Upper Management - the Casinoification of Upwork has ruined the platform.  I hope that you take this to heart and meet with top Freelancers to discuss how to save the platform so everyone involved (Clients, Freelancers, Executives, Stakeholders) can make more money... by finding ways to bring up the Hire rate.

I have ideas.

Let's talk.

Merci!

To clarify, I was responding to someone who posted something nice in French.  But that post was removed.  So it now looks like I am saying "Merci!" for no reason.

This happens here often. I replied to someone, moderator cleared the posts\topics mixed and I look like an idiot. 😸

You are lucky . My hiring rate has dropped to zero. I've tried everything, but I'm still struggling. I only have recurring clients, most of whom came from own Marketing and LinkedIn, My sales have dropped, and I'm only remaining at 35%. Everything was fine before the Upwork came with disaster. I know everyone is having problems, but Upwork is focusing on newbies because they are investing what they have , but for sure they are not earning. Upwork is taking advantage of freelancers by taking a huge cut of their earnings, and nobody is speaking up."

0.3% isn't significanlty better than 0%.

Exactly...in my profile I am bringing clients and I am doing work.

And sat sun algorithm also on holiday or their system is not updating 🤔 I am observing sing 3 week when sat come profile view drastically decrease toward 0, 1 around and on Monday its rise again and job post frequency from sat is around 1 hr gap. Some algorithm is there with not working correctly because earlier I used to see same traffic on weekend too. And it's world wide platform so nothing like sat sun every one think same to post less job..because hobbiest and side hustle people work on weekends for what they love to do or for side income to get help in from freelancers.

Earlier this week I went to check my "statistics" and it said that they had not been updated in 4 days...

If Upwork wants to consider these expenses as "Advertising", they need to give us the real-time analytics and metrics that actual advertising platforms provide.

I  was hire 0 times from June last year so almost a year! Probably my proposals are not shown or at the end of the pile!

Casino Upwork gives hires to new freelancers, until new ferelancers are hooked. When they are hooked they spend and spend, and end up spending more than they made.

I thought I was the only one. I joined this year and it is not encouraging. I kept on sending proposals and no single reply.

Marjan - how many jobs did you apply to during that time?

Hi Thomas

Its very long period and  hard to say i stop months back  to apply  but surelly ive sent 250 -300 plus.

Iam here from elance and odesk times so my theory is "older profile, less visibility to clients"

64 proposal I sent, only 11 interview and only 5 hire how it's seems around 3.2% but that's also not true I think because those 5 hire is actually come from direct message and invite, and clients I bring to Upwork by my self, not by proposal I send, Upwork taking service fee but algorithm have to impect how much you take from one. I am illustrator and have Generative AI experience too. It's strange after connects increase and fact is I only applied which is perfect match with my skill and have sufficient samples too. And some clients find me on another platform but my profile not suggested after their job post in invite freelancer section.

Khushbu, I would be interested to know of those 64 proposals... how many hired somebody / how many hired nobody?

Since January 1st, I applied for 129 jobs and hired 18 times (13.95%) 😒

David, how many jobs of those 129 hired somebody vs hired nobody?  And also what field are you in?
