Upwork should seriously find a solution....

Hi Upworkers,

I have a client who is very kind and polite, he sent me a request to work for him, I guided him through the steps to link his credit card in order to be verified before starting the hourly contract he offered me.

The guy was incredibly nice, he did what I said and I accepted the contract. We discussed the details and I was about to start tracking time when he told me he has issues with his partner, and wants to postpone the beginning of the contract. I simply explained to him that ending the contract without any payment exchanged will harm my JSS to the maximum ( I was only 1 week from becoming top rated ).

The guy sent me 10$ as a bonus, and I managed to solve the problem of the JSS, yet he politely asked me to not end the contract because he wants to continue working with me after he sloves his issues, and I accepted because he told me that we would work after only 2 weeks. However i told him that If he left the contract open for more than 3 months without any activity It would also count down against my JSS, and he understood.

Now about 3 months have passed since our last conversation!, and off course this contract will start to be idle after 1 or 2 months maybe, and will count down against my JSS wich is 100% and top rated.

My question is: why should I be worried about all this?!, what do I have to do with this situation?, I must be able to close this contract without even a 1% worry about my JSS!. All the conversations are stored in Upwork messages system.

Also All my contracts are long term ones, I have only 3 closed contracts with great feedbacks, and the clients rehired me again to continue our collaboration so please don`t tell me " Close the contract at the same time you get a 5 stars feedback from another one " because obviously I am an accountant, and most of our work is long term.

Thanks!.

End the contract as completed successfully. Wait until Sunday to see if anything happens JSS-wise.

If it does, use your perk to remove the impact.

Sorted.

First thanks for trying to help.

Yet I don`t think ending the contract and waiting to see what will happen is very wise, because if the JSS drop will be more than 10% ( I only have 3 ended contracts ), I will have to use the perk, and the perk is not here everyday, It should be used rarely when something out of control happenes that may ruin my profile.

However, I want to make sure of one piece of information, can the perk be used every 10 contracts or every 3 months? or that " every 3 months " is a lie?.

Appreciate.

Which is exactly what this *may be*

Both applies. you can use it once in 10 contracts and 3 months. If it has been 3 months but you don't have 10 contracts since you last used it, or you have 10 contracts but the 3 months are not up yet, you can't use it.

Alternatively leave it open until something happens to your JSS (IF something happens to it at all, which may not even happen because you have money paid on that contract) - use your perk then.

Either way, don't stress about it.

Let me get that straight, I can use the perk once every three months even if 10 contracts have not been closed, or once every 10 contracts regardless of the time passed. Is this right?

Thanks again.

No... it's 3 months AND 10 contracts. So if 3 months have passed but you only closed 5 contracts, you can't use it until you close 5 more.   Or.. if you close 10 contracts within 2 months, you will have to wait another month to use it.

but I agree with you - you shouldn't have to worry about this. if I were you, I would leave it open for now if the client won't close it. Money has been paid on it so I don't think it will affect your score if you leave it open. Maybe you will be in a better postiion to close it later.  No feedback contracts don't really matter, unless there is a pattern but it may matter when you only have a few.

 No.

After you have used the perk at least 10 contracts must have been done **AND** at least 3 months must have passed. BOTH.

Hi Mohammed,

I apologize for my confusion. To clarify, both conditions need to be met in order for the freelancer to use the perk: 3 months must pass AND at least 10 new jobs on Upwork must be completed since the last removal.

Hi Mohammed,

We recommend you to ask the client to close the contract. If the client doesn't reply to your requests to close the contract, then you may close it yourself. You may ask your client to close contract immediately and re-hire you in three easy steps once he has more work for you. Here is the article that you can share with your client, with more information how to re-hire you.  Hi Bojan, and thanks for your reply,

Since the client is unresponsive he can`t close the contract himself,

Yet again let me ask this straight " Can I use the top rated perk once every three months even if 10 contracts haven`t been closed? ". That is what I get from your reply, but Petra and other community gurus said otherwise.

Thanks again.

Here is the official article page that might help you, read the "eligibility" section:

https://support.upwork.com/hc/en-us/articles/219801228

It clearly states that "At least three months must pass and at least 10 new jobs on Upwork must be completed before you can submit another request."
