Thank you for the information. I'm new to Upwork and I am trying to find my way and learn how to become successful. I'm starting with the Academy which has been a great resource. 

I think one of my early mistakes has been writing proposals that are too long and don't get to the point. I'm going to focus on writing short proposals that get to the point and explain how I can solve a client's problems. It's a constant learning process and there's no fast track to success but I didn't come into this with expectations of instant results. 

I'm sure my profile needs some work as well. I'll continue to work on it going forward. 

I guess my only question to the experienced freelancers here would be this: when you first started and it might have taken you a while before you secured your first contract, how did you keep yourself motivated to continue to work towards that goal? I'm not discouraged by the lack of results yet but I could definitely see the challenge of staying motivated when you aren't yet seeing tangible results.
