Can we add non upworker in chat box?

Hello, my client wants to add his colleague on our message/chat box so we could discuss the existing project. He gave me his email address but I still can't add him on our conversation. I'm not sure why. Does he need to create an account first in upwork for us to include him on our chat box? Please advise. Thanks.

I don't think there's any possible way to add someone unless they already have an Upwork account. If you're not logged in, you can't access the messaging center, and you can't login without an account.
