A recruiter offered me a job in Data Entry where I only needed to transfer words from 100 screenshots/images to MS Word over four days, with a salary of $2500.
This began when I was searching for a client and came across a post seeking a V.A. and Admin. I applied, and although only a Data Entry position was available, I accepted it. The recruiter then referred me to a Project Manager and instructed me to contact him via Telegram. At this point, I began to feel doubtful as something seemed off. The Project Manager requested some personal information: my full name, age, and country of origin. This seemed standard, so I didn't suspect anything unusual except for the task he assigned me: to convert words from PDF screenshots to MS Word by typing at least 100 pages for $2500 over four days. Despite it seeming too good to be true, being trusted by a client for the first time on Upwork felt like an achievement, especially since it was my first time here and it would be a valuable experience that I could showcase on my profile for other clients.
However, after conducting a thorough investigation, I discovered that this was part of a scheme known as . I posted screenshots exposing these individuals who introduced themselves as representatives from **Edited for Community Guidelines**. I also suspect that these names are not their real identities.
I am deeply upset and annoyed by today's experience. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else here, especially those whose intention is to earn money for their families.

Hi Aldeb,
I am sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately, it looks like you were not hired for this job. Please keep in mind that you shouldn't provide any work until your client sends you an offer and a contract is created under your My Jobs tab. Please note that any request for free work is not allowed on Upwork, and it is a violation of Upwork's Terms of Service.
A real client will never ask you to give them money to start working, cash a check for them, work for free, or provide your personal information. Report suspicious behavior.
I encourage you to let us know if a TOS violation has happened by using the Flag as Inappropriate option throughout the platform. You can learn more about user reporting here.
Additionally, I would recommend you check this help article and available learning paths in the Academy section to help you stay safe on Upwork.

I recently encountered a suspicious job offer while searching for clients on Upwork. The recruiter promised a high salary for a seemingly simple Data Entry task.
