You are not in New York, and you have accidentally set your English to "native" which it is not.

Are there enough writing jobs in your native language, as obviously you would not want to try and write in English?

I can see that being new to upwork and being in New York can be easily confused.

re: "I am new in upwork. But I have a good skill in writing. How can I get work?"

Sabbir:

Everybody here would like to see you achieve your goals and succeed. But it is important for you to understand that your English language skills are not advanced enough to allow you to succeed as a writer for English language projects on Upwork.

If we didn't make that clear, it could lead to you wasting a lot of your time.

If you actually want to earn money, you need to do one of the following:

a) Don't use Upwork. Focus on money-earning opportunities in your local economy.

b) Focus your Upwork efforts on in-demand skills you are very good at, which are not centered on the English language.

c) Take a few years to learn how to write convincingly in English.

Sabbir:

Here are some further notes on how you may achieve success here on Upwork.

Your skills list from your profile page consists of these skills:

HTML5
LaTeX
CSS3
Technical Writing
Creative Writing
Android App Development
Artificial Intelligence
PHP
Web Design
JavaScript

Only two of these are writing-centric: "Creative Writing" and "Technical Writing."

If you are serious about succeeding here on Upwork, you will eliminate all of these skills except for one or two tightly-related skills. And you will revise your entire profile page to:

a) focus only on that one skill

b) be entirely truthful (including being honest about where you live)

c) include only profile overview text that you personally wrote

d) include only portfolio items that you personally created

Your original post in this thread emphasized your desire to work as a writer here on Upwork. But that post itself demonstrated your relative unfamiliarity with the English language. That type of post, filled with errors, causes Forum regulars to question your skills and react negatively to you.

This isn't just about you. This is a general rule for the Forum: If you are going to introduce yourself here as a freelancer who offers English language writing services, you need to use flawless English. You need to sound like you are a native English writer (even if you aren't).

There is an important double standard here, and everybody should understand it. If you are a non-English language specialist, such as a graphic artist or CSS designer or financial advisor, we can be very tolerant of mistakes in the way you write. It may not matter at all. But if you profess to be a writer, you must absolutely bring your "A game" when you write here in the Forum. And when you write in your profile overview. Don't tell us you are a good writer while demonstrating that you are a terrible writer.

Preston, as always, has brought his own "A Game." His advice, as always, is on-point and merits serious consideration.

Thank you very much sir for your kind suggestion. I really made a terrible mistake. I was new in upwork and didn't actually know how to get started with. Now I have been gethering necessary skills to demonstrate myself as a potential freelancer for the past two years. Hopefully I will come back strongly to discover who I am and what skills best suit for me.

Thank you

Hi Sabbir!

Welcome to Upwork. You reference several articles in your profile, you may want to add them to your porfolio so that potential clients can see your writing style. You can find more information on getting started and how to showcase your skills in profile and proposals by watching some of our webinars found here: https://community.upwork.com/t5/Content-Corner/Updated-List-of-Webinar-Recordings/m-p/231284#U231284
