I wanted to know how can a freelnacer be away from a job here on Up Work due to health reasons before a client can close a contract? I have a contract and have been away for a good while due to health reasons and wanted to how long can this continue before a client closes or hires another person for the job?

Tammara, that's up to the client. You should ask the client if you haven't already, assuming you've told the client about your health issues, but if you haven't told the client, then you should do so right away so the client can make other arrangements if the client wishes to do so.

Hi Tammara,
I would suggest that you talk to your client first and the client can pause the contract temporarily and just resume it again once you are back on track or until you are ready to proceed with the next part of your project.
To pause the contract the client has to do the following:
To restart the contract the client has to do the following:

Lanie M, I have contacted the client on today to inquire about the job and my return but I have not received a response. I guess it is safe to just start again on tomorrow? What would you do as the contract des not appear to be closed. I wanted to know if it is okay before I just barged back in.

so you disappeared and the client didn't notice? that's funny
I would wait to hear from him before you start making charges on his cc. You need to think for yourself and make an executive decision. Upwork can't tell you what to do.

Jennifer M, I have been out with illness I did note to the client that I was ill but I did begin to feel not so well again. As of now I am well I think enough to return to work. I think that I will wait for his okay before I returned.

Tammara:
You have received great advice from other people already in this thread.
Just to clarify something... you asked how long you can be away for health reasons before a client can close a contract.
This isn't really an Upwork issue. This is strictly between you and your client.
Because a client can close a contract AT ANY TIME, for any reason, or for no reason at all. So can you (the freelancer).
A client, if she wanted to, could ask you to turn in a project by Tuesday, and if you are late, she could close the contract for that reason. Whether it was because you were sick, or it was because your electricity was turned off, or even if you were just watching television and didn't feel like working.
The client could end the contract on Monday just because she felt like it. With no reason at all.

John K, I haven't heard back from the client as of today, so I think that it is best that I just return to work again on Monday. I hope that I am not fired the contract I think continues to be open anyway!

Jennifer M. Will my JSS drop because of this? I did also email to find out if Illness is excused? The client told me to take as much time as I needed But I am afraid that I have been fired.

Hi Tammara,
If the client doesn't reply to your message, you can close it yourself. One idle contract or contract without feedback will not affect your JSS negatively.

Jennifer M, Yes I have what was stated is I ca close the contract and it will not affect my JSS.

Thank You, AVery O! I didn't want to close it but I have been away for so long and the client hasn't responded back that I think I will just close it out.
