Suspicious employer

Hello,

I am new to upwork, I got contacted by a employer and after interview he says I am selected, later he says he will pay me outside of upwork, he also says he will send a check to buy office material. This sounds suspicious to me. Can anyone confirm my suspicion? Why does upwork allow such scammers ? Very hard for someone willing to work hard.

Yes.

That is a scam.

It sounds like you already know that acceptance of payment made off-platform is a serious Upwork TOS violation.

Upwork does not "allow scammers."

If you report this job using the "Flag as inappropriate" on the job posting page, Upwork will remove the job, remove the scammer, and give you your connects back.
