Timezone error preventing work on contract

I'm doing a contract with someone located in Australia. The start date for this contract is set to June 10. It is now June 10 in Australia, but I cannot record time for the contract because Upwork thinks it's June 9. Are contract start dates always calculated using UTC? Because this work will probably be finished before 12:00 UTC, should I just hope the client waits until 12:00 to end the contract so I can add manual time? Am I entirely at his mercy? Surely there is a better way to resolve this.

Hi Travis,

Yes, everything from the weekly billing cycle to reports, is tracked using UTC for consistency. We would suggest you discuss this with your client so they can hire you on a contract with the appropriate terms in order for you to be able to track time now. You can also discuss with them leaving the contract open for you to add your time manually or issuing a bonus payment.
