Why is my service fee more than the service fee Upwork announced?

Hi,

I noticed in my invoices that I am charged higher service fee than what Upwork officialy states.

It's supposed to be 10% of the hourly rate and I am charged 11%. I am also charged higher VAT tax for that.

10% out of 243.33$ should be 24.33$. Instead I am charged 26.33$. I have maded more than 500$ for this client so it's not the different service fees applying here.

Please explain why.

When did you cross 500? You will be charged 10% fee over 500, so it might result in a mixed rate when you cross it.

Hi Diyana,

This is just an example but on a $600 project with a new client, your freelancer service fee would be 20% on the first $500 and 10% on the remaining $100. Your earnings after fees would be $490. To learn more about our service fee, check out this help article. Thank you.
