I’ve been working with an Employer who pretended to be someone else and is profiting in the name of a big company. In the job post it was said that the payment is verified? How can that be?

Because payment is verified does not really mean payment is verified. Upwork uses that term but it does NOT mean the client's identity has been verified, or that the card is not stolen, or even if it will able to be charged the amount due when paying for hourly contracts. All it means is that they sent a couple of small charges to the card to see if they'd go through. That's it. In short, it means virtually nothing and actually misleads freelancers into believing that Upwork has determined the client and job are legitimate.
